Hopefully Amazon will price match too as this seems to be an in store only deal with MicroCenter.

Can I get this to install (Linux) Zorin OS?
I had to go look this up as now I'm curious too. Found a discussion on Apple's support forums. This is really good to know in case any deals come up on the older M series machines refurbished or whatever.

You could, but why would you want too? You can install Zorin on virtual box on any computer/cheap hardware. No need to spend money on a perfectly good hardware/OS combo like this.

The keyword for distro search is "apple silicon" processor. Debian works.

I *think* that it will work with ARM supported distributions, but well, unless you enjoy the thrill of piecing things together, I'd go with something that has an active thread online of people getting it to work/having & troubleshooting issues because you'll have somewhere to go.

For most people, this is the model to get. The only upgrade that might make sense is the 10Gbit ethernet. You would then have to buy it from apple education. Its well worth it because any external 10Gbit uses a lot more power and costs more.

I own this and it is amazing bang for the buck computer, which saying that and apple is usually a contradiction.

I have the M1 version and like the fact it supports several USB types which this one doesn't. That said, I played with it at the Apple store and its a real speed demon though mine is no slouch when compared to SATA based systems..Regardless this is indeed a great deal though there aren't any stores in my area

Bought it through Apple EDU on the 17th, it appeared on my cc statement today. I'm not a teacher or a student, so was worried there for a second, but it went through fine. You jyst have to be a little patient.

What's the use case for 10 Gigabit Ethernet?
99.9% of users won't saturate a 1 Gigabit Ethernet port.
