Bought it through Apple EDU on the 17th, it appeared on my cc statement today. I'm not a teacher or a student, so was worried there for a second, but it went through fine. You jyst have to be a little patient.
Bought it in dec without edu account after chtting with apple rep.. app rep asked me to go ahead and buy it even though i dont have edu account… i told the rep that i will be using this for my 10 yrs kid…. He said, no worries… and i saved the chat just in case.

So far no issues

What's the use case for 10 Gigabit Ethernet?
99.9% of users won't saturate a 1 Gigabit Ethernet port.
First, if you use 2.5GB ethernet at home, which I do, a dongle will cost $20 anyway. Second, 10Gbit is way faster to transfer files from one computer to another. I disagree on your 99.9% opinion. There are people who want a faster way to transfer files. It is 2x faster than using a SSD in a USB3.2Gen2 enclosure (10Gbps also) and is about 2x faster than IP over thunderbolt.

yep, for sure
The Linux kernel only has support for the M1 and M2 chips as of now, so no. I recently bought an M3 Pro MacBook with the intention of dual-booting Linux and was surprised to find that support was not there yet

for those that don't like micro center, or don't have one near them, you can just order through the Apple education store. They don't require any proof to make a purchase that you are buying it for educational purposes.

They pay little to no worldwide taxes in general. And they're one of the largest, most profitable companies in the world. Yet nobody seems to care about their tax dodging schemes. Imagine how much good those many billions of tax dollars could do.
Yo this isn't Reddit. Who cares as it relates to this deal? Apple's tax strategy isn't relevant.

FYI, ever since a take apart showed that the SSD was a plug in module, intrepid people have copied the module and are selling a 2TB SSD module for around $250. This is a bit cheaper than apple's $800 price, but this both voids your warranty and isnt apple authorized. For safety, an external drive is almost as fast, half the cost. But interesting that this is the direction some are going.

Shh, you're hurting their false narrative of Apple as the big bad evil.
