i really dont understand why they make the back of the shoe shorter than the front. seems like if it were all the same height, you could avoid dirt falling in the back if you were say walking through a disturbed soil or sand.... or avoid water going in if you stepped in a puddle. so they took would coujld have been 5 inches of protection and make it like 4.... i just dont understand why.

The way you wrote this is very confusing. I don't understand.

Basically the first boot image has an arch. Saying that if the back end was even on the top, that it would be less likely for water and dirt to get into the boot.

But I think if it was even, then you're sacrificing the easiness of putting the boot on. By having that part lower, it's easier to slip your feet into it. Cons and pros Wink

Goretex is just a name brand for a technology that is not patented anymore so other companies have come out with their own versions with different names but essentially the same thing as Goretex.

They arrived yesterday. Tried them on and unfortunately have to return them!
No cushioning, feels just weird inside and the outside fabric will be hard to clean once dirty and dusty.
Columbia will deduct $6 from refund for UPS shipping!!!

Got mine yesterday same result. The boot have little to no support or cushioning and the waterproof shoes aren't any better. If you have a local store in the area (assuming gas/time less $6) you can return it there.
