Good suggestion on just making a new account!
I'm frugal as can be and my wife hates me but you sometimes do not save anything being cheap if the cost in work, time and labor far outweighs the money spent. We are talking the price of a couple coffees here what are you saving doing all that extra work? One transaction download gets me transaction from 25 or so accounts and is done in few minutes. Just going out and grabbing all the statements would take me hours and it would take days to then enter them. That only gets you to the point where you still need to reconcile and hope that you entered no errors.
How do we account for transfers between accounts, capital gains, 401Ks, payroll deductions etc. would all be other things to work out. That would take more spreadsheet magic and many more hours. Ideally I would be better off learning to program and create a piece of software dedicated to keeping track of finances. Alternatively I can give some few dollars a year to someone that has already done that for me.
What you propose might be possible with one or two accounts but most have much more to keep track of. I love spreadsheets and they have many uses but they are not accounting software.

Restore backup file
Rinse and repeat next year.
I figure Quicken couldn't care less about the refund, since it wasn't purchased from them. And Amazon clearly states that it's non-refundable as well. Maybe a chat with them might work (ie, YMMV) but my guess is they won't bother to do this often, if at all...
Has anyone that is a current or past subscriber set up an new Quicken account and SUCCESSFULLY imported their data file? It has been MY experience Quicken is VERY proficient in loading "blank screens" when attempting to do stuff and that infuriates me.
Please let us ALL know if you have been successful with loading an older data file to a New User subscription. Thanks.
Yeah, I wouldn't call it an import though. So I tested the code on both Windows and Mac. This was one I purchased Dec and hadn't redeemed since I believe in a 30 day subscription delay. A technique I use to save on subscriptions by being without the software/ service for 1-2 months.
Anyhow, code didn't work with existing, my heart sank. Wasn't about to let it go to waste so I created a new account. I went back to my main machine and signed out, then signed back in with the new account. All settings remained and it opened the existing file just the same, but it prompted me to confirm I wanted to change the file owner from my old account to the new. I confirmed and had to re-auth all bank accounts, but that's about it. I share it with a family member and that process was the same for them as well. No importing necessary, just open your original file.
I do suggest a backup.

Thanks again for doing something nobody else seemed to want to. Happy Finances!

Big waste of shipping, paper, etc to ship a card with a code...
Update Today as I resumed the process of fixing every online acct, I noticed in the CC-800 error message that it says that this problem can result from restoring from a backup. So I guess its a feature, not a bug in Q' eyes. Albeit, I have restored from backups before without having to do all this work. And why was 1-step working for approximately 24 hrs before it broke? All accts should've been broken as soon as the backup was restored. Probably a Q security problem that I could do 1-step updates without reauthorizing. Ahhhhh Q.
