Recent reviews starting in 2025 complain they're now enforcing the "new customers only" requirement. Congratulations to the Quicken dev team on finally closing such a critical bug /s.

Good suggestion on just making a new account!

No thanks entering 30 years of data to keep track of my personal and business transactions is no go in Google Sheets. I still have to find a way to pull reports and totals of categories and such and it would take years of work to put something together.

I'm frugal as can be and my wife hates me but you sometimes do not save anything being cheap if the cost in work, time and labor far outweighs the money spent. We are talking the price of a couple coffees here what are you saving doing all that extra work? One transaction download gets me transaction from 25 or so accounts and is done in few minutes. Just going out and grabbing all the statements would take me hours and it would take days to then enter them. That only gets you to the point where you still need to reconcile and hope that you entered no errors.

How do we account for transfers between accounts, capital gains, 401Ks, payroll deductions etc. would all be other things to work out. That would take more spreadsheet magic and many more hours. Ideally I would be better off learning to program and create a piece of software dedicated to keeping track of finances. Alternatively I can give some few dollars a year to someone that has already done that for me.

What you propose might be possible with one or two accounts but most have much more to keep track of. I love spreadsheets and they have many uses but they are not accounting software.

Whether you'd like to admit it or not, you are paying an annual subscription.

Agreed - I'd like to know this as well.

I figure Quicken couldn't care less about the refund, since it wasn't purchased from them. And Amazon clearly states that it's non-refundable as well. Maybe a chat with them might work (ie, YMMV) but my guess is they won't bother to do this often, if at all...
Worth a shot for sure and I'd give it a go. Does look like the other user did it through Quicken. See the post above your last one. Do appreciate your honest, ethical, unemotional and to the point attitude and input about it all.

After reading EVERY comment, I have seen people STATE they are going to try to set up an new email account with Quicken to activate this offer and then try to import their current data file into the new subscription. I have not seen anyone state if that is successful.

Has anyone that is a current or past subscriber set up an new Quicken account and SUCCESSFULLY imported their data file? It has been MY experience Quicken is VERY proficient in loading "blank screens" when attempting to do stuff and that infuriates me.

Please let us ALL know if you have been successful with loading an older data file to a New User subscription. Thanks.

Yeah, I wouldn't call it an import though. So I tested the code on both Windows and Mac. This was one I purchased Dec and hadn't redeemed since I believe in a 30 day subscription delay. A technique I use to save on subscriptions by being without the software/ service for 1-2 months.

Anyhow, code didn't work with existing, my heart sank. Wasn't about to let it go to waste so I created a new account. I went back to my main machine and signed out, then signed back in with the new account. All settings remained and it opened the existing file just the same, but it prompted me to confirm I wanted to change the file owner from my old account to the new. I confirmed and had to re-auth all bank accounts, but that's about it. I share it with a family member and that process was the same for them as well. No importing necessary, just open your original file.

I do suggest a backup.

Thank you for letting us know this worked. At least it does for now. So I guess you create the new account on Quicken's site. I backup after every use by saving my quicken files in the cloud. I've used Quicken since before they had a Windows version, so my data (while mostly useless for the most part) is quite extent.

Thanks again for doing something nobody else seemed to want to. Happy Finances!

Just to update people, the Newegg purchase worked to update my sub for another year. This Amazon one did not, as mentioned before...

Big waste of shipping, paper, etc to ship a card with a code...

So I bought the Amazon "new subscriber" deal around end of last year and didn't activate it until a few days ago since my current subscription didn't run out until then. It was a big pain to get the new setup working. Either I did it wrong or nobody else felt like complaining here. I did backup of the old Q database and then deinstalled Q from my Win11 desktop. Then created new Q account as part of the installation and did import from the backup. So far so good. When I did 1-step update, all banks and creditcard accts updated but brokerage accts had problems. Simply doing the "Reset Account" on online services tab of the account details popup didn't fix things. I had to do deactivate and reactivate for each brokerage account. Then next day the banks and credit card accounts broke. I am in the process of deactivating and reactivating online access for each account. Most of the time (due to Q bugs), the deactivate/activate including 2-factor authentication steps fails the first time but doing a 2nd time does work. In other instances, I had to do "add new account" and it will give me the intermediate window allowing me to link to existing account rather than creating a new Q account. When you have a lot of accounts, it becomes a royal pain. Another problem was that sometimes the process of readding brokerage acct results in the "simple tracking" method is forced and you cannot select detailed transactions, supposedly due to the way the institution does web connect. This is another Q bug that there are work-arounds to fix so I had to dust off my notes about how to fix that. I think next time I will pass on the savings of becoming a "new Quicken user" and pay the extra amount. And pray that the accumulation of Q bugs doesn't cause the whole convoluted mess to disintegrate.
Update Today as I resumed the process of fixing every online acct, I noticed in the CC-800 error message that it says that this problem can result from restoring from a backup. So I guess its a feature, not a bug in Q' eyes. Albeit, I have restored from backups before without having to do all this work. And why was 1-step working for approximately 24 hrs before it broke? All accts should've been broken as soon as the backup was restored. Probably a Q security problem that I could do 1-step updates without reauthorizing. Ahhhhh Q.

Thanks for the information. I had heard of trying that and was hesitant. From what you describe I'm glad I was. I just hope they still offer deals on extended subscription versions but have a feeling they may go away.
