Good suggestion on just making a new account!
I'm frugal as can be and my wife hates me but you sometimes do not save anything being cheap if the cost in work, time and labor far outweighs the money spent. We are talking the price of a couple coffees here what are you saving doing all that extra work? One transaction download gets me transaction from 25 or so accounts and is done in few minutes. Just going out and grabbing all the statements would take me hours and it would take days to then enter them. That only gets you to the point where you still need to reconcile and hope that you entered no errors.
How do we account for transfers between accounts, capital gains, 401Ks, payroll deductions etc. would all be other things to work out. That would take more spreadsheet magic and many more hours. Ideally I would be better off learning to program and create a piece of software dedicated to keeping track of finances. Alternatively I can give some few dollars a year to someone that has already done that for me.
What you propose might be possible with one or two accounts but most have much more to keep track of. I love spreadsheets and they have many uses but they are not accounting software.

However they are clearly struggling with maintaining the Windows version. It runs much slower than the Mac version, feels archaic and janky, and it has lots of little annoying bugs that they clearly have no intention of fixing. ...
Thank you for the details. I suspect a while back they switched to some development framework middleware that is 1/2 their problem. They may outsource their maintenance development to a vender that has experience with this middleware but are not in house.
Who knows. I'm going to give the mac version a shot at this price.
What does it mean to be a new customer or subscriber? If you can't use the activation code on an existing account & installation then which of these would work:
- start a new subscription with a new email (using the existing installation), OR
- uninstall the existing program & then reinstall the program with a new email account.
It seems that one of these methods should work.It asks for your Quicken account. When I logged in with my account that had run Classic in the past and expired for around a year it said the activation code was for New Subscribers only and gave me a link for a refund.
I noticed I can't manage my Fidelity brokerage account as a "detailed" account or whatever it's called, just "simple" which was surprising and disappointing.
It does feel much more solid than Windows so I will probably just try to make do with it.
I have all my Fidelity accounts setup as detailed, so I don't know what happened for you. Sorry.
Uh, no. Maybe for your "checkbook" but you don't manage decades of investments and retirement plans and reports etc in a manual spreadsheet.
extra bonus - i just discovered you can use your Amazon digital credits for software, I had no idea, I thought it was only for books and video.
I never have any use for these credits...will start paying more attention to them now!

Yeah, I'm glad you saw this. Back during the start of COVID and they were generous with no-rush, I bought some software for over $100 with digital credits :

Because it's by a million miles the best product on the market for managing a complex set of financial accounts. I have used Quicken for 35 years now and have over 150 accounts (many are old archived accts like education, loans,or brokerages that I moved away from over the years). There's nothing that has the power of Quicken for truly managing your financial footprint if you want to do that.
If you don't want to use the web or mobile apps, you can turn off sync altogether and have your data only on your computer.

I don't like the way this is starting out with Quicken. Should I consider requesting a refund (is this possible?) as I cannot enter my bank account or just write off the $19 I spent? Just asking here before dealing with Quicken or Amazon. Thank you
