The refurbished one VERY occasionally hit $99/89. I have been waiting for 6 months and they disappear in 1 hour whenever on that price.

Do RF50mm provide any improvement over EF except that it's a native mount?

Just picked up an R5; coming from a 5D where I have plenty of EF lenses including the 1.4 50

Is the RF nifty 50 worth it?
Or should I just stick with the 1.4?

The adapter isn't a big hindrance, but RF Is smaller and lighter, how's the speed and quality?

It's native so it's smaller and lighter. It's slightly sharper.

I would go with the 1.8 RF. Great lens especially for the price, and I say that as someone who shoots with the 1.2 RF. Adaptor also adds weight and bulk, and IBIS works better with RF lenses

Thanks for the info. This could make the difference of whether I bring camera with me or not for an outing. The 100mm can be cumbersome.

Canon literally shifted the lens elements forward the same amount the flange focal distance was reduced from EF to RF.

The 50mm 1.8 EF elements are pretty deeply recessed into the lens, which was good for not worrying about the front element without the lens cap on.

The front element of the RF version is almost flush with the front of the filter threads

yeah I think it hit $80 on Black Friday, but I never saw it in stock during that time. I managed to snag an R6 1 for $1k refurbished! Bought it on impulse and it went out of stock a few hours later

This is a good deal if you want new. Canon Refurb regularly goes on sale for $99. Like every few months. My experience is they stay in stock for a day or two not an hour.

Yeah I got this one for $80 refurbished from canon website by calling in and getting extra discount for loyalty. Great lens for its price. I use it all the time.

They are usually available for $139 for about a week. If listed for $99, such as yesterday evening, it sold out within one hour.
