That has far more to do with Sony's incredible streak of phenomenal accomplishments & developments, including their unmatched sensor & hardware/software capabilities, specifically the buffer (which is one of the multiple breakthroughs they achieved via their BIONZ tech that saw them go from outside the top 5 in the market to #1 by a continuously widening margin.
Burst still photos: Depends. The camera fills its buffer then pauses or slows down while the buffer is dumped to the card. Faster card = shorter pause or less slowing down.

I was surprised to see in that discussion that the buffer stops while unloading; I am used to a more modern buffer design that slows down but lets you continue shooting at a lower FPS. I don't have a Sony so I do not know if there is a way around that but in any case a faster card means less waiting.
