I'm guessing because it arrives broken... [giphy.com]
Not because of the product's quality !

because of *chips* and a not-airtight seal in the rim, it seems.
Still it has a 4.7 rating. I've got the gallon size for oatmeal, and it is perfect, so I'm going for this

Yep. Amazon shipped my Pyrex measuring cup in an over-sized box with a single sheet of packing paper. Needless to say...

So glad for this one. Been on the lookout for jars to store my Celtic salt that's glass and big enough for 5lbs worth. Thank you

I have the gallon size also. They are solidly made and look nice on the counter, but they do suffer from a lack of any kind of seal - it's glass against glass.

I would advise against for longer term storage (like oats) unless you're planning to use the contents within a relatively short timeframe.

I use mine for short term storage of homemade granola and popcorn.

How can a product have a 4.7 rating and be frequently returned? Such seems inconsistent and most likely either there are a lot of fake reviews or those returning the jars aren't posting reviews. Buyer beware.

I would guess it is returned "frequently" because of the poor packing done by amazon employees where the Glass item is broken or even shattered before it even arrives to the consumer.

I would never buy a glass item from amazon.

Yes, these work great for glass container storage, trying to ditch the plastic storage. You can get screw on cap-lids for mason jars too.

That was my first question. I'd guess you want airtight... especially for the amount of time it'd take to use a 1/2 gallon of oats
