Based on a previous deal post, you can apparently play the HD remaster of the first game by modifying a config file to trick the game into thinking it's the Origin Complete Edition.

Technically, the complete edition never got released on Steam, but EA didn't bother locking it down aside from hiding a menu option.

So, two great games for a buck and a slight middle finger to EA for screwing over American McGee is a steal.

I really enjoyed this back in the day. But I was a huge fan of the original. The story is messsssssed up! I will say the sequel is interesting in it's own ways. It's a very beautiful game.

This game crashed every couple hours on my PC. I ended up watching the second half on YouTube.

Played this one after a deep discount soon after initial release.

It's an intentionally 'victorian madhouse' presentation of a post-Alice in Wonderland story, where instead of clever mathematics and logic, you've got an art style and 'trippy' platforming and combat.

It's not horrible - but a bit like one of those off-kilter soviet-era cartoons, it's not memorable for many good reasons. It's just kind of there with 'pretend trauma' as a voice affect, in that same way a one-note high school Shakespeare presentation might have.

A bit like the Johnny Dep Alice in Wonderland, actually. Just seemed to be a thing in that era.

The more whimsical book will outlast all of these in public consciousness, fortunately.

But cool that the developer seemed to have fun with creating an odd fan project with a public domain work all the same!

People, people.
Stop arguing about this.
Its a great game, and for $1 it should be an instant buy.

Just be sure to remove the fps lock. Playing it at 144hz is incredibly smooth.

They were consulted. If you Wikipedia it,

Alice: Madness Returns is a 2011 action-adventure game developed by Spicy Horse and released by Electronic Arts for Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The game is the sequel to American McGee's Alice (2000) and was directed by series creator American McGee.

Anyway, great game, well worth the dollar.
