For what it's worth I got this last year for $1799 and I've been very happy with it
If you watch a lot of stuff on cable/satellite or other lower resolution stuff, I'd take this over a Hisense or TCL just for the better processing and upscaling. I feel like way too many people rely on rtings for specs, and not what they'd actually see in their own homes.

LG typically gets bad rep for their non-OLED models but this is one of their better models .

Is this a better or on par with the recent 86 inch Hisense for the same $$?

Real question: wouldn't an AppleTv etc. take care of the upscaling?
And rtings says it has horrible 480 upscaling. I get that their scoring priorities funny up the final rating, but I don't think this is one of them.
Seems like cable, 720p. etc. upscaling is much better.

But the viewing angles are outstanding for a better non oled.

I'll get this upcoming question out of the way: how does this compare to the Sammy 85" QN1XD deal from Mid December (and are probably still waiting ANOTHER month for delivery)? I'm one of those, but have moved on. And lolz, I think if you reordered now it's still a deal @ $1224 with EPP before any coupons, and 4-5 day delivery!!! I guess that's the real question, this LG, or eat some pride and reorder the Sammy?

If you're willing to scale down to 77" and get an OLED in a similar price range, you'll be much happier in the long run.

Gotta get this outta the way too: This size of tv kinda falls on how immersive of an experience do you want it to be (it's almost too big)? If you're sitting 10' or under from this tv, you're going to see all kinds of artifacts on an upscaled image regardless of the brand of tv. The larger you go, the more the the minutia becomes visible and distracting. I'm about 8' from my X85K 75" with that "great Sony processing" that everyone loves to talk about and I see all kinds of stuff I didn't see on a 65" Sammy plasma it replaced from the same distance. These 4Ktvs just don't display a lower quality image all that well.
