All the reviews make it look like this is geared toward video rather than photo and that the active cooling system makes this heavier if you do predominantly photos.

Video performance looks solid though.

This is a beast for video. S5ii is more general purpose.

Depends on your needs - gh7 comes with unlimited video recording at any frame rate, record internally Apple ProRes RAW, sensor with contrast and phase detect focusing, more megapixels if you compare it to original g9, so and cf express cards etc

For those on the fence:

I've read on many forums that unless you are looking for specific upgrades to the older GH systems. Many recommend the GH5 over this due to price points (for example those who are ballin on a budget).

Personally I have a GH5 and still professionally use it to this day, nonetheless this is a good deal and would be hard to regret buying unless you DONT have the money

If I had 2k lying around for fun I'd buy this pretty quickly

its a solid video camera with various frame rate speeds for slow motion and RAW recording. If you are a noob you dont need it. I sold my top end lens collection and my GH6 and moved over to S5ii and full frame lenses because I had situations where I needed more low light and I like shallower depth which sharper to achieve on m43 cameras. you biggest investment will be the lenses not the camera as quality lenses can last decades. S5ii is also a good photo camera. But the screen on the GH7 is better and I dislike the s5ii screen.

with my B&H EDU discount I can get the GH7 for $1800 and I prefer not to get kit lenses as there are way better lenses for the system. Still I left the m43 system and wont come back unless I need big zoom lenses. I prefer to shoot in Braw instead of ProRes Raw anyways.

I continue to cheer on the micro four thirds form factor but unless Sony comes out with their version, it's going to continue withering.
huh? Sony joining micro four thirds?

I've had GH2, GH5, and now on the GH6. The GH is now near the quality of the BM Pocket Cinema cameras, but more practical (IBIS so you don't need a rig, way better battery life). Processing power and image quality of the GH6 is better than the GH5 but overall I preferred the smaller size of the GH5; I also have a BMPCC4k if I want the best IQ in a chunky camera. Thanks Slickdeals for now blowing away my morning figuring out if the GH7 is worth the upgrade Smilie

No additional camera manufacturers are going to get into MFT at this point. This is like those "no HDMI" TCs from days of yore.

This was my first non HTHJU camera. I paired it with inteliSYNc 2.0 but I was unable to get the flatWire 5.6 to firewall with the inline capability. Likely user error. It's a good camera just have to keep those things in mind.
