My experience with BB open box excellent has been good. The laptop I got seemed new and was packaged well too.

As for this laptop, I've never used this specific Dell but at this price it seems a great deal if you just need a basic productivity laptop and you're on a tight budget. Decent size, weight, display, and port selection. It's not going to be premium feeling, but it'll get the job done as long as everything you need to do works fine on Windows on ARM. Generally these snapdragon laptops have good performance and battery life for everyday tasks. If you do more demanding work I think there's better options.

If you can stretch your budget I do think there's better laptops available in the $500-600 range right now, especially open box deals. But at under $400 this seems good to get a modern processor.

I bought several excellent OB ones from BB. Generally speaking the experience is mixed. I got a perfect laptop, a phone with a lot of scratches and a tablet that has a crack across the screen. Good news is that their return policy is nice so you can always bring in and return it if it doesn't work.

How are people's experiences with Windows on ARM? Specifically with app compatibility? Microsoft seems to be doubling down on it with the latest Surface having Snapdragon. I played around with it a little at a Costco and seemed quite snappy...but that was only with the built-in apps.

nobody is doubling down on Windows on ARM, which is why you see all of these devices going on sale every single day. the compatibility is trash unless you use basic apps like Web Browsers to do most of your work. if so, then these should be just fine.

I saw this video and for any x86 apps has to be emulated and it takes alot of memory and cpu if it runs. Even with the emulator, it often crash and it does not run. You can forget about games, There's a select games which runs with ARM, but the majority of them you can forget about it.

The good thing is that the battery life is much better and they say that some apps like Chrome works even better than the x86 version.

It is best if you look at what apps you have in your laptop which you need to see if it is compatible. As I mentioned, I need Fortinet vpn software and they don't have an ARM version yet so it is a dealbreaker for me. Meanwhile, Lunar Lake supposed to be much better than the snapdragon cpu without the compaibility issues. I guess I will wait for one to be in the bargain bin before I will buy one.

For your "compatibility is trash" comment, do you know what apps are not currently supported by Windows on ARM? At least we will get a sense what user groups this device is not intended for.

I am curious about this also. For example, I use Corel Afershot Pro for post-processing raw photos from my old DSLR camera. Will that continue to work on ARM Windows? I don't really want to spend on another software coz this one works just fine. I also have other apps specific for my other gadgets (guitar amp, etc.) that I'd like to continue using.

Unlike you, I actually have an ARM Laptop (Galaxy Book 4 edge). Compatibility is fine. I'm sure there are some apps out there that flat out don't work (I know Topaz AI suite is one) but everything I've thrown at it works fine.

Bull. I have been testing a dell latitude version of this at work. Apps work fine with emulation. Haven't run into any performance issues for normal work apps. Battery life has been great. Not sure how this Inspiron compares with battery size.

I wouldn't buy this for gaming or to run non-arm graphic or 3d design apps.
