Maybe laptop audio has come a long way and I'm missing out but these are absolutely don't sound like a toy and they get plenty loud. I hear you on the upgraded versions but these are widely known for being great budget speakers for day-to-day use and they sound great for Twitch, Youtube, Podcasts, etc. If you have a budget of $20 for an office setup these 2.0's will absolutely suffice.

Bought one in 2019 and still have them today. Not bad under $20.

Depends what you mean by decent. The built-in speakers on my Macbook Pro sound better, but that's a $1,500 laptop. My work-issued Dell's speakers sound like they're made from aluminum pull tabs and powered by a watch battery.

This is an inexpensive upgrade that makes a big difference. Also, because I'm using them at work, I like that they don't have a subwoofer. My desk is right next to my Executive Director's office, and I don't want to get noise complaints from her.

As always, it's about the right tool for the right job. If you expect an audiophile listening experience, or a home theater contender, you're going to be sorely disappointed. If you want compact, inexpensive speakers to improve crappy laptop built-ins, or a minimum viable product for a desktop with no built-ins, these are among your better options.

I think creative is one of the most slept on audio brands out there. They make a TON of stuff, but I'm usually pleasantly surprised by the quality and the availability of software drivers and manuals on their website even for the most obscure and ancient stuff. And the obscure ancient software simply works even when it was designed for much older hardware.
