Way overpriced since there is once again a massive glut of NAND chips. Also Samsung promised us cheap 16-128TB SSDs back in 2016. I'm sure none of these wonderful corporations are colluding to milk the consumer.

Newegg has it for cheaper. You can add this PSU for an extra $24 off. The result is $555 for the drive and the PSU. Images attached.

WD BLACK 8TB SN850X 8TB NVMe SSD: https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16820250270
ASRock CL-550B PSU (550W, 80+ Bronze, Non-Modular): https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16817955019

Here's the full list of items [newegg.com] that can activate the combo offer for the SN850X. Some items like this PSU also have their own combo offers. Items can activate each other's discounts.

However, I think the best value is to pair the SN850X with the ASRock CL-850G PSU (850W, ATX 3.1, 80+ Gold, Fully Modular) [newegg.com] for $595. I believe the 850W PSU also has a $10 mail-in rebate and a $15 review rebate for an extra $25 off. Those rebates lower the combo price to $570 (excluding taxes).

Apparently you slept through the lecture on oligopoly [wikipedia.org] in your "captialism 101" course. The model of perfect competition you seem to think exists is a reality only in markets where there too many producers or consumers to coordinate on production & prices effectively. There are only 10 SSD module makers [evertiq.com] in the world, the top 5 of which have increased their market share from 59% in 2022 to 72% in 2023. Just duckduck "NAND production cuts"; these companies have repeatedly cut production while increasing ASP (average selling price). That wouldn't happen in a world where production is not coordinated and another producer would simply ramp up production and take more market share.

Ahh, I remember the glory days in Fall, 2023 when you could order a 4TB M.2 from Amazon for $126. And I'm still kicking myself for not buying a 8TB 2.5" SSD when the price was only $300, stupidly thinking that prices would continue to drop forever. The same drives are about twice as expensive now.

They are actually clearly not collaborating because whoever lowers their price wins all the business. That's capitalism 101. They are providing the best product for the best price and that's all they can do or they will lose market share
Price fixing is a real issue. It keeps them all making bank.

Wow I missed that coupon. I saw it was $350 and thought that if it went down a bit more, I'd bite. Oh well.

Do you have a link to the $15 review rebate?

It's part of the rebate process. Here's the link for the rebate form: https://images10.newegg.com/uploa...cd12us.pdf

For storage probably 16TB NVME (8x2), but hard to play all of those games.
