Shell has kicked off their 2025 Rotella rebate program on multiple sizes of Rotella T4, T5, and T6 diesel engine oils with up to $80 in rebates on purchases made from 2/01/25 to 5/31/25. Currently 3 gallon case of T6 is $38.36 at Walmart after $40 rebate. Rebates paid by Mastercard® Virtual Reward Cards within 6 weeks of submission. Not valid on Amazon.com or Walmart.com purchases; Walmart purchases must be made in-store to qualify for rebates.
My truck requires 4 gallons of oil per oil change, so I buy the 5 gallon buckets when I can get a good deal on them, but at $11.66 per gallon, this is cheaper per gallon than anything I can find for the 5 gallon size.
2 or 3 years ago I submitted the rebate and was denied. Missed the fine print.
They used to allow Walmart.com purchases back in the day. I just returned it, purchased in the store and submitted another rebate.
Maybe someone can enlighten me and explain why they don't allow the online purchase form Walmart but do from other retailers' online marketplace.
My guess is that requiring in-store purchase serves 3 purposes:
1. It prevents, or at least complicates, two or more people buying for a single user or bulk commercial user to circumvent rebate limits.
2. It allows for better tracking of advertising / marketing / promotion results and regional / local sales numbers.
3. It helps local brick and mortar stores sell more product, which means that shelf space allocated for Shell products won't shrink as much due to slow sales.
I wanted to purchase 2 of the 1 gallon 3 packs of T6 at Sam's Club, but they only had one left in stock (this was on the web site), so I went ahead and purchased the 1 that was left figuring I could order a second one when they were back in stock. Now I noticed that on the rebate page it says "Qualifying purchase must be made in one transaction". Does this mean if I want to submit for 2 rebates, they both have to be on the same receipt, or can I still submit a second request for the second rebate?
Also, do they send a physical card, or will they send an electronic card?

They send an electronic rebate that you then use to "purchase" an e-gift card. I just use the funds to get an Amazon gift card to add to my account. However, there are lots of other retailers available.

Be warned! If purchasing from Walmart, you have to go to the physical store. It says in the fine print it's not valid for Walmart.com purchases.
