Had this for a few months after an Orbi firmware update really jacked up the base Orbi unit. Instead of resetting the orbi base, just returned to Costco, and grabbed this set up. Biggest downside is cloud interface only for accessing all the settings. But as a IT person I don't want to come home to tinker with my internet connection. So the extra wired ports on these are nice, and so far have been really solid. Plus if another firmware update causes issues will just return to Costco. Basically a nice stop gap until I figure out a Ubiquiti solution for my place.

Had this unit for couple months, but end up returning it to costco due to roaming issue

Quick experience on the product:
Pros:
  • 2.5 ports on all units
  • all units are routers
  • support MLO
  • individual device control
  • impressive speed/distance with 2x2 wifi
  • best price 2.5 ports/wifi 7 mesh router on the market
Cons:
  • roaming issue, signal will drop when change from one router to another
  • brand faces US national security probe
  • limited control over wire. everything has to be done thru app
TLDR: cheapest wifi 7/2.5 ports router on the market. If it works with you, best entry level wifi 7 router set.

Never had it but reviews says Asus Zenwifi is suppose to be better than deco.

BT6 is slight downgrade of BE63 due to the limited 2.5G ports and with steeper pricing.

Can you make the 6Ghz backhaul only on these ? my 6e decos just got an update that disabled this feature...On the fence about just ditching TP link altogether

As I understand, TP-Link router may be ban this year because of the security issue. Do your research and save yourself the headache.

I'm going to grab this and if it's banned I'll return it to Costco

Not that I've seen, hell even the wired connection I have to a satellite doesn't have a backhaul indicator. From what I'm seeing ethernet should indicate backhaul is active, but backhaul doesn't have a distinctive indicator. Like I said these are definitely for the plug and play crowd.

in the deco app for me 75s (?) they show a wired to the ones that are wired and USED to say backhaul 6Ghz...Now, its all three bands...

I dont like this because it was much better knowing the 6 was strictly a backhaul...

I have used Ethernet back haul and 6GZ for WiFi. It's blazing fast. Also, they have a network optimization available where it scans the frequency channel and optimize it. It's working great so far.

Might want to do web search for TP-Link router security just to make sure these fit your needs.

"Several of the cybersecurity experts I spoke with believe it's likely that intelligence agencies have found something with TP-Link that warrants a ban.

"I think this comes from a deeper intelligence within the US government. Usually this happens before the information becomes public," Guido Patanella, senior vice president of engineering at Lansweeper, told CNET.

"I think it's beyond political," Patanella added. "It could be either an intentionally set hardware flaw or it could be from a firmware point of view. This is usually a black box analysis and it usually doesn't get shared, as happened with Huawei."

FYI for those who are concerned about long-term software/firmware support. It's one reason why I went with an ASUS router instead.

I picked this set up at Costco and have been quite happy for the few days that I have had it.

The one thing that remains incredibly frustrating, however, is that you can NOT disable DHCP services on the unit.
I run a pi-hole and have that device serving DHCP so that the logs will show proper client names, and it's far more robust for reserving IP addresses.

No matter what you do, you can NOT disable DHCP on the TP-LINK. Most other routers allow you to limit the DHCP pool down to just one address - but TP-LINK does not. No known fix coming; it appears to be a forced function of the firmware which TP-LINK engineers have no desire to allow opting out by user.

For most, this is not an issue - but for those use cases like myself where DHCP is being served by another service/device, understand you will have conflicts.
