It's been years since I played but here goes....

You recruit 'adventurers' from the village to enter a dungeon to battle monsters. Its perma-death so your adventurers that die, won't return. You can't save and restore to a pre-death state either.

Your adventurers suffer physical damage from monster attacks as well as 'stress' damage due to factors like darkness, loss of team mates, being hit by crits etc. You can recruit more adventurers but its random what you get. Sometimes you need a tank but you get a glass cannon instead.

Between missions you have to de-stress your surviving adventurers or they could start missions with debuffs. Suffer enough 'stress' and you can be stricken with a permanent character 'flaw'.

It's a fun game but be prepared for losses - don't grow attached to any of your adventurers.

Game is very fun and challenging but the RNG at "Darkest Dungeon" difficulties can be very unforgiving - one bad enemy spawn can turn a perfect run into the perma-death of characters you might have built for many hours - just the name of the game though!

Word of warning - this game hates you. Personally. Also, it is probably one of the most insanely addictive games I've ever played. Forewarned is forearmed.
