Has anyone traded in previous purchase from Costco for the profit? I just want to know if it is a good investment.

From what I understand, buying gold at spot is good. Buying it less than spot is rare. When you sell it back to a gold dealer they usually deduct as much as 5% from spot. And often they sell at 5% over spot. At least that's what my guy does and he's very low-key locally but he does travel buying and selling precious metals. Does quite well for himself.

It is not a good investment. Its a decent place to store your cash if you aren't or won't put it elsewhere.

5% on the front and/or back is very pricey. Of course your friend is doing well. I typically sell my generic gold for 2% back, eagles and buffalos I get more than spot for when I sell them.
