This work for kitchen shears?
I've been trying to find a reasonably priced solution for sharpening kitchen shears and not just throwing them away.

I bought one of these years ago. It's absolutely terrible. No discount makes it worth purchasing.

That was my immediate 1st thought looking at it. There are many ways to get an axe sharpened, but for me, a bastard file and a sharpening puck work just fine.

Purists will tell you that you don't want to sharpen both faces, at least not equally. I'm not really an expert on either dulling or sharpening them, but I've used a ceramic rod on the beveled face and made them slightly better than they were. Same with a round file on loppers.

I think out of any sharpenable item, an axe is the one I'd least want to use this on. Since this is ceramic instead of tungsten, it'd probably be better than nothing at all for people who put knives in the dishwasher, but there's some kind of bad juju that's visible under a microscope when sharpening is parallel to the edge.

Do they have serrations of any kind? If so, you're prob not in luck. If there are none, take a Sharpie and mark along the cutting edge. Then take a diamond sharpening steel and in a tight circular motion go along the edge until the sharpie is just gone. Works well for me

This looks like the absolute worst way to sharpen... Hell, anything. Yikes.

Second this being absolute garbage. It's made with cheap, light plastic and is borderline dangerous to use. There's no grips on the bottom so it slips while sharpening. Doesn't even really do a good job with sharpening either. Save your $10

I bought one of these from Amazon previously. When I went to return it they just had me keep it for free.

That's how bad these things must sell.

I use a good quality oil stone for my better knives along with a strop. But it takes a long time per knife. Our cheaper kitchen and steak knives weren't worth the time. I use a carbide pull through on them now and have a passable edge in seconds. Then can touch them up anytime. Works for me...

It's cheaper to buy at IKEA. I use it on my kitchen knife. It probably sucks, but two or three swipes and the knife is sharp enough.

I would advise all to get a grinder and learn how to sharpen knives and anything that requires sharp edges.

I have used one similar to this and like others have said if you want your fingers sharper than the axe youre trying to sharpen then this is the tool for you. I wouldn't recommend sharpening an axe or hatchet with it, these however do an okay job with the cheap sheet stamped machetes. A few slow, long passes and they're halfway usable again.

If a knife sharpener is only 4 stars it must be very bad.
