If you're not set on getting Ryobi, take a look at the HyperTough 20V impact wrench [walmart.com] from Walmart. It has 900 ft/lbs break away torque for $99, and has been tested by TorqueTestChannel on YT.
I've been eyeing it for a while now as a cheap impact wrench to take with me on road trips. I currently own three Dewalt 1/2" 20V impact wrenches (High, Mid, Low), and a little 3/8" 12V.

For anyone already in the Ryobi ecosystem, I'd recommend the Brushless Cordless 4-Mode 1/2 in. High Torque Impact Wrench over this. The kit with charger and battery has come up on sale for $139. It's rated for 1170 ft-lbs of breakaway torque. It got the bed bolts off my truck and everything else I've tried it on.

I have this and totally regret my purchase. One of the only ryobi products I have that is lame. It really really really struggles getting lug nuts off my jeep (110ftlb torque) and chevy express (140ftlb) torque. It'll eventually get them off if I sit there (sometimes for 10-15 seconds per lug). I've given up and break them free with a breaker bar.
Edit: FYI....that's with using the 6ah HP battery

Say it aint so! I just bought this for the purposes of lugnuts (although I usually torque mine to 90ftlb). Another immediate need is taking out long overdue water heater's anode rod which I couldnt break open with a breaker bar.

I have this impact wrench, bought from Tools Direct outlet, for $60 IIRC. Just used it a month ago to switch to winter tires/wheels. Breaks loose the lug nuts with ease, torqued to 130ft/lbs, and I've only ever used it on the auto mode, which stops itself once the nut is loose and nearly off the stud. Used it a few other times to rotate tires. Really makes these jobs much faster.

So there's a 1/4" version and a 1/2" version. What's the difference, or is there a use case where it makes a difference? I'm thinking about getting one for the once a year random case where I wish I had one, but don't know which one I would want to have.

This probably is too bulky for most places with 1/4 sockets.

Seems underwhelming for $120, my 5 year old DeWalt mid torque is rated higher than that and has worked flawlessly for lugs and everything else I've thrown at it. Haven't tried a water heater anode rod yet though, we'll have to see how that goes.

Keep in mind, you really shouldn't be using impacts on most consumer grade vehicles.

The '24 Toyota warranty as well as the Advanced Wheel Locks I purchased for it both say that using an impact will void the warranty.

At $150 for a set of 4 lugs, I'm not chancing it.

That's stupid and a scare tactic. Even if something happens, who's going to say yah, I used an impact. Are you just using the dealership for parts?


Anyways the high torque version is a beast. I use it on Medium and heavy duty trucks and it takes the lugs nuts of like butter, especially with a high 6ah high performance battery
