temperature settings on fans is useless

and electronic controls fail, mechanical switch is better

what would be nice is a reverse mode which is only on the better models

these are also impossible to clean and have to be thrown out every few years like box fans if it's a dirty/dusty environment

Some of the lower end window fans have reverse flow too. And you are right, electronic controls on this type of fan are going to fail eventually.
