Too many times Amazon coffee deals have been old, nearly expired beans. Pass for me.
it should be mandated on slickdeals that coffee bean deals need to disclose a roast date
It's pretty simple. If you want half-price coffee, buy this. If you want the optimal roast date, buy it person, probably for full price. And if you really want the best beans, buy the even more expensive stuff from a local roaster. I do all three.

Part of the trade-off of getting this delivered to your door for cheaper than your local supermarket is rolling the dice with the roast date.

Shipped and sold by Amazon. You could make that suggestion to Amazon. Don't think it's very practical, though, since they use the same listing over time and the roast date likely changes. You can just go to stumptown (in person) and see the roast date on the beans they sell. With Amazon, you're going to have a less personal service, compared to in-store.

Bag Amazon ships should have a roast date on it. If it's too far past (more than a year), you can probably return it. But buying from Amazon might not be the best option for you.

Looks like the best buy date is roast date+4 months.

Based on the most recent reviews, a lot of people are received coffees which are "expired".

Sort by new to read some of these:
"Just received a bag of the founder's edition that has a best buy date less than two weeks from now. "
". Received after "enjoy by" date and 4 months after roast."
"Received 2 weeks before "use by date."

unfortunately "Non-returnable due to Food safety reasons" Frown
the past several deals I bought were not TOO bad, 2-3 months from the roast date and I used them for cold brew, which was OK

The best price & quality combination I have found is on Costco online, if you have membership. I usually order the Ruta Maya Organic Medium Roast Whole Bean Coffee 5 lb for $45 delivered. That comes to $6.75 per 12 oz (to compare against this deal)

Beans are freshly roasted to order and quality is always excellent. The beans don't have excessive oil so won't clog your bean grinder. Just another option to consider.

Since it's sold and shipped by Amazon, if it was shipped more than a year after roast date, I would argue with them that they weren't shipping the promised product, i.e., a high quality coffee bean. I figure I'd have a better chance of winning than losing that argument, given that Amazon is the seller. And if not, I'd dispute the payment with my credit card.

Saying an item isn't returnable doesn't allow them to justify shipping a product of substandard quality, if it wasn't advertised as a lower quality product. Even Stumptown would tell you beans decrease in quality over time, and that you should consume them in less than one year after the roast date.

Costcos in the Austin area stock both Ruta Maya and Fara. Both are roasted here. In person from Costco you can get them pretty fresh (week or two), both a couple bucks cheaper than at HEB.

Fwiw I have chatted Amazon support on "non-returnable food items" that came expired, and they have always done something for me.

To be clear, I'm talking about receiving food that is expired by the date or outright damaged in shipping. They don't always offer replacement (sometimes refund only), and sometimes they make me upload pictures, but have gotten a return on food stuff a few times.

Can't say that they would do it for older but not "expired" coffee but I'd be surprised if they didn't for actual past date stuff.

my experience is just complaining to customers representatives, they will refund without return. No hurt to ask and get free safe-to-use food

I'll just add my two cents regarding roasting date. I had a 5 lb bag of Olympia Coffee Big Truck espresso that was in a cabinet for almost a year. I was worried about how it would taste and to my surprise, it's fine. Tastes as good as I always remember for my Americano and my wife's latte.

Thank you for the excellent recommendation.. Will try it
Especially appreciate the comment about excessive oil on the beans.. especially so since my grinder costs more than the frigging espresso machine
