this or this for about 100 bucks more. weighs a pound more. for someone who isn't going to play games, i'd bet the OP's is the answer.
the following might be OOS by the time your read this but right now it's there for 545: https://ishort.ink/vkHp

You may regret it. If tarrifs are imposed, then everything will get a lot more expensive. Some companies will start raising prices instantly, even before they are affected.

That makes sense. But the other thing I realized is that my current laptop weighs 3 lb and the lenovo weighs five and change. I spend a lot of time in bed with the laptop on my legs and 5 lbs will make a huge difference. Just can't see it working out. No matter how good it is. Crap.

I think I read that you can put a second SSD in the Acer here. if that's true then it kind of looks better and better though not in the same class as the lenovo, of course. but for my use case, yeah maybe.

So now I'm torn between the opie's and this other Acer for 200 less. https://www.ebay.com/itm/26688934...media=COPY. Any thoughts on that one versus this one. Kind of driving myself nuts trying to figure this out

found this while researching the ops acer.

"Aside from the soldered memory, you can rely on a SODIMM slot for future upgrades and dual-channel mode. We are happy to see a decent port selection and a pair of M.2 slots but keep in mind that only one of them is for Gen 4 NVMe drives."

I don't know but this seems pretty good. think I will give it a try. went ahead and ordered it.

The RTX 2050 mobile is a hard sell in 2025, offering performance barely above integrated GPUs like the 780M. Pay a little more for something newer (eg 3050 or 4050) and you can get 50% - 250% better gaming performance.

i cancelled my order but i still don't see anything better for the money, especially if you aren't a gamer and never expect to be one.

Not every laptop having a dedicated graphics card is for gaming. There are many other uses for dGPU. This is far from a gaming laptop to begin with. It's just a beginner's jack of all trades laptop that can do just about a bit of everything with a mediocre screen for a very affordable price.
The 3050 or 4050 you're mentioning are mainly hefty gaming laptops and you'd have to spend more than $100 to get a new one.
It would be better if you knew the difference.

What you're saying doesn't really make any sense because the dGPU is on par with today's integrated graphics like the 780M. The only reason to buy this machine is to get Nvidia specific gaming technologies like DLSS. If the goal were really for a jack of all trade's laptop integrated graphics is the more sane option as it won't kill the battery life.

I think you absolutely fail to comprehend the basic fact that the dGPU comes with more VRAM which means it would not eat up the actual RAM. The processor in this is the not so old Intel Core 150U and the iGPU is still better than previous generations despite not being as good as AMD's iGPUs. So, the iGPU coupled with a dGPU is still a better bargain compared to just an iGPU from AMD.

No, you're wrong again. The dGPU is limited to 4GB VRAM whereas the iGPU is not. Another win for the iGPU as opposed to ancient dGPU.

this laptop is still available on ebay but it's now offered in certified pristine refurb condition with a 2-year allstate warranty, for what that's worth. it's got two specs for weight, one at 4.11 lbs and another at 3.3 lbs. wish i knew which was right. as before, ram can be upgraded and it's got a 2nd sdd slot. a notebook review site said it had a 330-nit screen. the only better deal than this that i've seen recently is the very short-lived acer vero one, https://slickdeals.net/f/18135133-acer-aspire-vero-16-16-qhd-ips-intel-ultra-7-155u-16gb-lpddr5x-512gb-gen4-ssd-win11h-499-99-f-s?src=SDSearchv3&attrsrc=Thread%3AExpired%3ATrue%7CSearch%3AType%3Anormal%7CSearch%3ASort%3Arecent%7CSearch%3AHideExpired%3Afalse.
anyone seen anything better under $500, for a non-gamer?

Just grabbed this, thanks OP. Wife needed something for just basic home use and photos. Fact it is a pristine condition refurb, 2 year warranty, and upgradable seemed like a winner
