I went with the 4 pack of 8.8 bricks deal for $10, Qualita Rossa. The bricks come from Italy, whereas the 12-oz ones are for the American market and can be found in grocery stores. I used to pack a lot of the Lavazza bricks in luggage on Europe trips, and I found them better than the US 12-oz types they have now. I also don't have Prime, but Amazon is shipping the order free with s/s for me. I usually only drink a cup a day, so 36 oz should last for several months without locking me into one taste forever. Regardless, the Amazon Lavazza deals are a good way to cope with rising coffee costs. If you want exceptional dark roast and have a grinder, the Intelligentsia deal for a half-off bag is also a good choice, although I find Target Circle deals for Intelligentsia and Stumptown and other premium brands.
Italian roast, French roast, Dark roast sounds fancy but it's coffee overly roasted to mask it's low quality.
Doesn't really have anything to do with quality. It really is a way to blend multiple types of beans/batches together into one consistently flavored mix. That doesn't mean they're necessarily low quality. I like to think of comparing a low-cost blended whisky like Seagram's 7 Crown to Johnnie Walker Blue Label. Both are blends, yet vastly different quality.
