The only thing I would say that is not ideal is the lack of a built in flash. For the customer base this is going for, you would think it would have one.
OK but say you are on vacation and you want to take a picture during low lighting or night time. Pretty embarrassing to have to put this away and take out your phone to do the job. Sometimes you are forced to take a shot with the sun behind the subject and needs some illumination for their face. Sure, pros may know how to get around this but this camera is tailored towards amateurs and it's just easier to flip up a flash to help you out. It's not like this is a full frame camera.
If you currently run a D5xxx series DSLR and wanted to get into the Z mirrorless... This is PERFECT.

I chose to adapt lenses to sony mirrorless. I believe it is better to buy sony line of apsc, from 6400, 6500, 6600 you got many choices, ibis even. But buying aps-c makes little sense now when canon r8 and followers exist. zf is only thicker, aps-c cameras are not smaller anymore, most people buy them because they are poor, not they are shooting birds or sports. I would say this $400 is better spent on (iphone) pro, (S25)ultra for most people with d5xxx. D5xxx are small, they are just thicker than zf. Best thing about them today is that they are battery worry free.
If someone doesn't know why they would choose a mirrorless over a phone then it's better to just use a phone.

That's a solid catch, thanks for pointing that out. I rarely use a flash but when you need it...you need it but I'm not going to buy a compact mirrorless just to lug around an external flash.

The best flash is the one you have. Agreed.

But, counterpoints. I have a Nikon Z/fc that doesn't have one, and it's occasionally a pain, but for the most part I'm glad there's zero chance when I take a picture somewhere I need to be discreet that I forgot and let the built-in flash go off. (Though ask me about the Z/fc's green focus assist light. :sigh: )

ISOs go so high on these things without super-insane drop-off I don't miss it much. And I have a dedicated flash (that I rarely use) for when I really need one. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Depends on usage as always. Lots of indoor, high-res, don't mind that the flash isn't bounced, don't want to carry around a dedicated flash, this ain't for you. 😉 But not having one isn't as bad as it was in the film days.

I have two d3500 Nikon cameras. Thinking about finally going mirrorless.

it's a compact camera....if you mount the 24mm 1.7 lens you won't need a flash 99% of the time...

you can't have everything if you want portable and cheap.

You could dream of a pocket size full frame camera with F1.4 10mm-1000mm pancake lens with fancy flash and a price tag of 399$. And...just keep it in your dreams : )

I mean, there's that hot shoe right on the top. Grab a $30 godox tiny flash if you need one. Meanwhile, don't burden the rest of the market with your 1995-style need.
Even a full frame camera wouldn't do any magic hanging around a Donkey's neck knowing nothing about the camera.

But this is not a full frame camera, is it? Or we wouldn't be having this conversation. It's a budget mirror less apsc camera intended for beginners in the world of photography. Most buyers of this intended target audience would not get an external flash or a 1.7 lens. And people act like the iso on this budget camera is like that of a high end camera. Cmon be realistic.
Camera snobs are the absolute worst.

Anyone have experience with Nikon refurbs? Looking for a nice walkaround camera on an upcoming trip to Alaska.
I bought this Z30 previously from Nikon as a refurbished model and it was perfect. It did not come in a retail box though, but everything was bubble wrapped and flawless looking.

Two things

1) Is it worth it to get this Z lens to replace what comes w/ this bundle?

https://slickdeals.net/f/18096343-nikon-nikkor-z-24-50mm-f-4-6-3-black-on-sale-for-199-99-at-bestbuy?v=1&src=SiteSearch

2) I've owned a DSLR and I want to get back into photography. But also want something portable / easy to carry. I appreciate the images my iPhone captures but want a more traditional camera for "every day" type use. Is this Z30 a good re-entry point?
24-50 is a 36-75 effective focal length on an APS-C body like this Z30, so not too useful. You don't need that anyways as this comes with a 16-50 lens already.

If you were to buy this and stick to APS-C lenses, I'd heavily suggest you buy Viltrox lenses. These ones they released this past year are some of the best for APS-C ever. Check out YouTube reviews: https://viltrox.com/collections/z-mount

I'm so sad, so close to getting it but no viewfinder is a deal breaker. Any other good used/refurbed camera at under $500 with viewfinder you guys recommend? Was gonna go for a r100 but heard it's bad

I own a Z30, Z50, Z5, Z6 and Z7, Sony A6100, Panasonic GX-85 and various action cams and drones. for all intents and purposes I'm a camera snob and I recommend this.

You have an idea of what this is and who it best serves and you don't even own it - why should anyone listen to you?

Z50 might get that price as a refurb soon. The Z50ii was released a few months ago. You could wait.

Anecdotally, you can read above that I own a ton of cameras... I don't care it has no viewfinder. I'm not saying that to convince you don't need it, only that is possible to fully enjoy without it.
