i own this its just a heating element and silical gel beads. maybe good to throw in a dry box if you really want to make sure no moisture gets inside a sealed box or a safe. you can then plug it in the dry to out the silical
This ain't gonna dehumidify anything larger than a kitchen cabinet. I've used larger ones in a closet without much success
These are popular in the photography field. You want to store your bodies and lenses in a dry box (or cabinet) at a low humidity, but not completely dry.
Need something for a large walk in closet. Anyone have any recommendations?

I suspect this device is using a peltier junction, not very efficient like 5% efficient. You might actually use less electricity and increase capacity dozens of times by going with a typical phase change dehumidifier that turns on when humidity is above a set point rather than this tiny thing running constantly.

This might be a bit of a misunderstanding, so please let me clarify..... I'm not saying that it might be using a lot of electricity, it's using a little but for that little bit your not getting very much use out of it. Meaning it's not removing as much humidity per unit of electricity than more efficient models, like phase change. You might find that the more powerful units that use more electricity are also more efficient. So they might turn on for much less amount of time to remove the same amount of humidity but also use less electricity in total, to do so. So for your smart plug the comparison should be total amount of electricity per day or per hour, to maintain the same level of relative humidity. You might find that the constant on smaller peltier might use more electricity in total for the same amount of work.
