When I went to pick it up, the store employee tried to sell me an extended warranty, saying that this MSI X870E motherboard has had bad reviews and multiple issues within the first 6 months of ownership. I found this odd because why would they push a deal they know has problems?
After doing some research, I found reports of:
🔹 Stability issues (random crashes, clock watchdog timeout errors)
🔹 NVMe drive detection problems
🔹 LAN/WiFi issues right out of the box
🔹 Inconsistent BIOS updates that may or may not fix problems
If Micro Center knows this motherboard has issues, why promote it so heavily? Now I'm second-guessing my purchase and wondering:
1️⃣ Has anyone else had problems with the MSI X870E Tomahawk?
2️⃣ Would the X670E Tomahawk have been a better, more stable choice?
3️⃣ Should I return it and swap for a different board?
The 7700x is cheaper than the 7600x after buying an additional ram stick because the 7600x only comes with 1 - 16gb stick.
Also if something goes wrong (like bad ram) do you have to return to the store to sort that out or can it be done online?
You can't go wrong with a build starter like this at this price. I got the 9900x bundle last week, a step up from this one and it's very beefy. I imagine this one to be very great for most use cases too. Depending on what you're upgrading from you'll probably be able to really feel the difference. I could from my previous i9-9900k

For those who wish to further widen that performance gap, you can do so with overclocking. (but you will of course sacrifice that efficiency gain) Sure, the X3D cpus are "best," but they cost nearly $200 more (which is insane) and those gains are game-dependent and they diminish with higher resolutions.
I bought this bundle with the intention, well, how should I phrase this... with the *idea in mind* that I was *considering* upgrading my 2080 Super. Maybe a 9070 XT if they were gonna be reasonably priced. That said, fanboys, apologists, and people with fomo have allowed both nGreedia and AMD (if price leaks are to be believed) to completely price fix and destroy the gpu market, so those of us with common sense might need to wait 6-12 months for the market to crash when people realize that you're gonna need $500-600 for a 60 series card! What they're doing is unsustainable. (And surely, it must also be criminal.)
Anyway, I still think this is a good upgrade if you're on AM4. This puts you on a new platform and then you'll be ready whenever the gpu market inevitably comes crashing back down to Earth. Just be patient bro! Be patient! Don't be that guy that screws it up for everyone else!
