Is 3rd party anti-virus really needed these days? At least for windows, isn't Defender pretty much up to task?

I bought despite having 6 months to go on my subscription. Easy to insert activation code but you get a screen telling you to put in your credit card number for continuous coverage. In VERY SMALL leters it allows you to SKIP. Then it gives you the option to extend your subscription or start a new subscription. Took the first and now don't have to worry about getting a Bitdefender 'deal' for 2 1/2 years.

Doing this only adds two years from the date you activate. It does not actually add to your existing subscription. I did this and learnt the hard way
It extended my subscription from 402 days to 1133 days

It start a new subscription the day you activate only if your existing package is not exactly the same(Internet Security vs. Total Security, 3 devices vs. 5 devices or 2yrs vs. 5yrs...etc). Otherwise, current subcription will be extended for an additional 2 years beyond the current expiration date.

I switched to Bitdefender Total several months ago and it's been excellent. Stays outta the way but steps in when it sees a suspicious url etc. Also doesn't hog resources and slow down my PC. $15/yr for 5 device coverage is a very nice price for this level of protection.I had to make the switch due to the K**pe**ky ban, which was the brand I used for many years and was happy with. This package is comparable and doesn't require much of a learning curve to the new user interface.Nice find, OP.
Welcome to Bitdefender! I was a transplant since '16. I'm not sure if I was a victim of the Russian election interference of that year or not. My laptop all of sudden was super slow even with professional intervention. They could not fine an answer to my mysterious dilemna. There were reports at the time with how Kas......ky being controlled. I decided to remove it after a decade of trust. The transformation was nothing short of incredible. From where I stand, Bitdefender is absolutely the best. The most noticeable difference is the immediate reduction in processing resources dedication to run the software. Glad you've come aboard.

Yes you can. Just log in and enter the activation code. I believe you can load upto 5yrs of protection.
Do it only if you're going to use the laptop that many years.

I've been using Bitdefender Total Security for years. The name is a little misleading now because Bitdefender Premium Security is now the top tier plan which includes VPN and password manager. I signed up for Total Security when it was the top plan, and a separate subscription for VPN is necessary with Total Security. Just something to keep in mind when shopping around.

Surprised to see Bitdefender dropped to #4 this year in overall rankings. Even more surprised to see Norton at #1, but I see it includes a password manager and unlimited VPN, unlike Bitdefender Total Security.

If you contact customer service they will combine your subscriptions and add the additional time to your existing subscription. I did it before.

For most people Windows security should be fine. As long as you aren't following risky links and have a basic online security awareness, windows is likely sufficient. This is for people who want that extra peace of mind for more advanced real time data protection and threat defense.

It would be nice if it comes with VPN. I like AVG ultimate, comes with VPN.
Why? Using a VPN like that only hides your DNS queries from your ISP, not from some company like AVG or whomever you VPN into.

Exactly. These things are going slowly out on their way. Waste of money.
