But having said that, this is a huge hit or miss depending on the kind of unit one gets. A yellowish tint is a major issue reported and I got the same with my unit last time. Ended up returning it rather than replacement. Based on reviews on Amazon, there are users with up to 5 units being replaced because of the same issue and finally returning. A lot of potential hassle and time expense. Again, YMMV

Fwiw, I had a rep who let me keep my kindle scribe and its replacement due to the light leakage problem prominent on the devices. They said I didn't have to send either back and offered a discount on my original purchase price. Make sure you at least ask for something to make the hassle worth your while
Good for you. And good to know for next time for me. Thanks.
I just returned it back via the return option but not via chat/rep.

I always prefer to do it via chat cause they're much more amenable. I had done the $300 scribe deal with a $50 gift card and 20% off with trade-in. Total came to almost 200 and when my OG device and replacement were both defective they gave me $80 back and I got to keep both. Definitely worth overlooking a defect, tho the light leakage is substantially less crippling than the miscolored hues. Not sure I'd be willing to keep a device in that condition.
One the new version with a real fix comes out, these will be $99 on Woot IMHO

The color works surprisingly well.
Then they "fix" the yellow tint or glue stain by changing the back screen color from pure white to the same yellow tint DEFECT color and now your device has a yellow screen and say that they fixed the issue?
This reminds me when Apple "fixed" the bad batteries on their iPhone's by slowing down the phone.
Sure I want one but I'll not pay full price for a defective item and yes you will see all the returned ones being sold on woot for $99. They cannot sell returns as new even with the BS "fix" so every return is going in a big box soon to be headed to woot in a few months. I'll buy that one with a nearly new battery as most of these are being returned right away.

The stuff you listed as improvements would just be from being 2nd Gen
