No clue if the drives are CMR, SMR or whatever. They work for me. I keep redundant backups. I wouldn't trust these or any drives without at least one other backup of the data somewhere. All drives fail sooner or later.

When it died, I had it for 14 months which was over the 1 year limited warranty. The box showed the warranty period for North and South America to be 1 year. The box showed that some regions around the world had 2 or 3 years of warranty. In the US you only get 1 year of limited warranty.
