i've been using hr block since pre-covid. never includes state e-file.
dont fall for their money grab.

print out and mail it to your state irs.
my state is just 3 pages. costs 1 stamp.
the summary page (dont send in) of the printout includes where to mail your taxes
easy peasy
It is cheaper to do it that way, but since my friend had his return stolen (he thinks either from the mailbox or post office itself) I have been springing for the extra cost to efile. He is still trying to get that mess straightened out and has not received his refund from 2023 return. Even when I was mailing my return, I used to send it registered/certified mail and I think that has gone up to around $10 now so efiling for me isn't much more and safer I think.

I bought this from newegg. I spent 2 hours on chat with H&R tech support. They were unable to resolve the 2 issues I had. They were unable to open the return I uploaded to them. Thanks to amex, I am disputing the charge. I am also buying turbotax. They have tech support that actually works.
What were the issues?

It does look like it there may be some truth to it but it sounds highly exaggerated also. Not two days of outages and more a short period but on very bad day, the day before tax day. It was not some massive outage and most taxpayers could still file.

Do you really need Premium is the question. What do youthinit has that you need?
Deluxe does all the same forms.

I'm in the same boat and will be also filing for other family.

I'm going to wait until at least mid-march...but that is me.

I have the luxury of waiting.
Kind of clownish. Compare prior years, we've seen $18 or cheaper by this time (multiple times). You are waiting a month to get your refund because you THINK you'll save $2.50. Just not worth it.

is this better than freetaxusa? (I pay 15$ for state)
Started filing with FreeTaxUSA for the first time this year. I am still waiting on tax documents for 2/3 brokerage accounts, but everything else is already entered including a rental property and one brokerage account. I like their interface better than H&R Block. It seems cleaner and faster than H&R Block which I have been using the last 6+ years. Assuming there are no issues when I finish filing, I will never be going back.

Not really. The primary advantage here would be the ability to run this software locally on your PC, keeping your data mostly local and not in the cloud. That said, when you e-file, the data goes through H&R Block servers to get to the IRS, so it's not strictly local.
