I've been hoping to see a Spinfisher on sale. Great, tough, saltwater reel. Both the 6500 and the 8500 are $134. The 8500 is a massive reel. This will be a bottom fishing (snapper, AJ, Grouper) and Cobia reel for me. Now, got to find a rod.

Heavy built, but great reel. If you don't need it now, you may want to hold out for a previous gen combo at about this price. Got the Spinfisher V 4500 Medium Rod Combo for $84.50 in 2019, and the rod in that gen was definitely equivalent to $100 rods. Those days are over, but $135 for a combo will most likely happen again. They cheaped out in later generations by not having guide inserts, but some may like that.

Somehow, the picture is not right. It's giving it like a baitrunner style.

Well I got scammed from those sales.

Ordered 2x SVII 6500 and received Penn Pursuit IV 3000 and 5000 both damaged / used / broken parts.

Reported to Amazon and the removed the third party seller.

Prices are now increased and sold/shipped by Amazon

The 8500 is great for crab snaring on the surf. Always good to have a sealed reel so that on the off chance that your setup falls into the sand and water, it doesn't get ruined. As long as you don't use the reel while submerged, the sand won't be able to get into the gears.

I've had two newish reels ruined because of tough swells that loosened my sand spike resulting in the entire rod & reel to fall into the sand and water. Sand got into the reels and ruined them. I tried to take them apart and clean out the sand, but it still never worked the same.

Would pick one up but just bought a 8000 Shimano Spheros that is very similar to this.

Amazon itself isn't any better. A couple of years ago I ordered a spinfisher in " used, like new" condition. I received a first generation spinfisher that was VERY heavily used, so much that you can barely see the words and logo on the reel body.

can you recommend a budget friendly or slick deal reel for crab snaring off a pier?

i ordered two of these reels over a month ago. they keep delaying the delivery with no explanation.

i just got a notice from amazon that i need to "approve" a later delivery.

is this one of those things where they try to delay you until you can't dispute on your credit card or something and then simply don't ship?

it says "Sold by: Amazon.com Services, Inc" -- so i figured it was reliable, but not sure. this has been delayed several times.

I have 5 of these reels attached to my surf rods (10'6 MH thru 12' H) in the 6500 size. These reels are great if you take care of them. I rinse after every use and they are getting dunked every so often.
They are sealed which is great, but IMO overkill if you are just fishing from a dock and not submerging the reel frequently. I dont see any difference between the Spinfisher and the Battle line for those that are not submerging the reel frequently.
