I use the dot email trick and have had 4 memberships so far…so if your email is [email protected] for the next time just use [email protected] and the 3rd time [email protected] etc etc basically any combination of periods will make Sam's club (and most places) believe its a different email address, but the email still goes to your normal gmail
I have been 'renewing' Sam's club membership every year for $20 (or lower in the past. This year we moved to a city with Costco so I got Costco membership and let Sam's Club membership expire. After a few trips to Costco, I bought Sam's Club again.

Costco is just too crowded for comfort. First parking is a pain and then you have to navigate your cart through hordes. And then finally check out lines are huge. It's just crazy. Sam's club has fewer people and so shopping is MUCH faster. And scan and go is awesome. My wife just refuses to step into Costco now. We figured $20 extra per year for Sam's Club is worth the peace of mind.

We'll probably still keep Costco. $60 is a lot but even one big ticket item a year makes up for it. So we'll keep Costco for major purchases and online ordering. Overall 'deals' are definitely better at Costco. But we'll use Sam's club for regular weekend groceries. Like I said, $20 extra just to avoid the crazy Costco rush is worth it.
I agree 100%. We have both, but I avoid Costco whenever possible. We keep it only because one of the eyeglass prescriptions in our family has a surcharge at places like Zenni, so getting the lenses for $50 at Costco (plus a second pair for "free" with just the cost of frames) ends up breaking even with the membership cost. There are one or two things Costco regularly sells that is a good price (3lbs of chia seeds for like $9 is one) that helps. Kirkland toilet paper is still the pre-pandemic width, so I buy that. We only drive EVs these days, so waiting in line for Costco's "top-tier" gas isn't a benefit for us.

All three Costcos around us are a zoo. The Scan & Go at Sam's is amazing, I can't believe anyone puts up with lines. And a hill that I will die on is that Costco's food sucks compares to Sam's. We have been to all three; my kids hate their pizza and their hot dogs suck (and no sauerkraut!). Froyo is twice as much as Sam's (and it's the same stuff). I don't think you can order food from the Costco app like you can with Sam's; it's nice to just walk up and get my food without waiting in line.

I just don't get the Costco cult following. Like most places, you only save money on some things and they make it up on overpricing others. Their return policy is generous, I'll give them that, but so was REI's before it was abused enough that they had to crack down on it.

Quick note: Costco has gone up to $65 for their standard membership, so it's no longer $60.

Is it worth it to get the $60?
I never used sam's shipping as I purchase in-store all the time. I checked my amount between costco and sams. In sam's I am spending about 3100/year. So the only benefit for my case is cashback which is not worth, even though it seems that I am getting "60" back, which will be used in the next membership year which means that I need to renew at regular price...spending again 50-60 for (depending on the cashback) the next year. so, If I want to continue spending 50-60 for the membership every year, it will workout fine for my case.

But for those who spend 5K+ and get items through shipping...it is worth.

No W A Y, deals are better at Costco. They are priced higher than Sams for any given product, hands down!! To make it worse, Costco keeps taking out the items you like and buy frequently because the manufacturers gave them less discount. I would have ripped up the Costco card if not for the bagels and top tier gas that they sell! If only Sams had top tier gas, I would gladly show my finger to costco. I have compared my shopping list with Costco and Sams and I keep saving atleast 8-10% at Sams compared to Costco.
Sams DOES have "top tier" gas. FWIW gas is transported from the same holding tank, every non-brand station is selling literally the same gas.

Used to be then they changed the minimum ship to $50 and didn't grandfather existing plus members in for the membership length.

no, sams does not sell top tier. Sams gas is not top tier certified! Period. Its not the holding tanks, its who pays to get additives into the gas they buy. Stop spreading BS. I have researched this enough to know that Sams gas is not top tier certified!

Not true. Top tier gas will say it on the pump. If it really was top tier, they'd have the sticker on the pumps.

I also used the dot trick on the Gmail and know for sure I did not use that specific dot email and I'm also getting the message "This info is associated with a Sam's Club account. This offer is only for new members."

Edit: Someone mentioned to put a different phone number and that worked. Use Google voice if you don't have another one.

Sorry, just sharing the facts. The absence of a "top tier" sticker on the pump does not mean it is not literally the same gas as every other station is selling. It all comes from the same storage tank, that is the way gasoline is distributed in the US.

It's unfortunate you have not been able to "research" this successfully and get accurate information on gasoline distribution. Your information is not correct, the facts I posted are correct. The absence of a "top tier" sticker on the pump does not mean it is not literally the same gas as every other station is selling. It all comes from the same storage tank, that is the way gasoline is distributed in the US.

Talk to someone in the industry, or even the gasoline attendant at Sam's if you don't believe these facts. Better yet, follow the tanker that fills Sam's around to Costco and the other stations it fills.

Yeah, the gasoline attendant will know where the truck driver got his gas from. You did not realize that the gas station attendant is probably busy cussing his butt of in this weather to know where the gas came from. You seem to have written a lot of inaccurate replies judging from the number of posts you seem to have made Wink

Sam's Club at $20 is a solid deal. I've done something similar with different email variations and had no issues renewing at the promo price.

Unlike Houston and Los Angeles, many US cities will have access to only one gasoline refinery. All gasoline sold in the US must have a minimum concentration of detergent, per the federal government. Big oil companies like Chevron, Mobil, and Shell will add a proprietary detergent to the gas during semi tanker refill for marketing purpose. The concentration of the detergent can vary, depending on who is driving the semi tanker. This tanker may deliver unsold fuel to a gas station that does not PROMOTE top tier gas...not a big deal since the additional cost of the detergent amounts to less than a penny per gallon of gas.

Gasoline is an excellent solvent. Old contaminated alcohol-blend gasoline is the root cause of many fuel related issues, A well designed engine with port fuel injection and a steady diet of fresh clean gasoline should never encounter deposit that affects fuel atomization.

An engine designer takes advantage of the cleaning power of gasoline by supplementing port injection to direct injected engine. The port injection gasoline mixture controls intake valve deposit. Older neglected engine may benefit with the use of premium fuel. I prefer to use a high quality concentrated injector cleaner like ATS Chemical's 505CRF to clean the injectors.

Coking can form on a leaking fuel injector. The best solution is to replace the injector.
