Better since they are newer tech IMO. They have more bass than xm series, maybe slightly less fidelity but not really a large falloff for normal, daily use. I have/had xm3/4/5, these are excellent.

The mic seems to be great for calls and meetings with clarity and good noise cancellation, they are pretty bass heavy with the ult button if you crank it otherwise with the app eq they sound great

The XM4 has better ANC than the ULT, but a tad less good than the XM5 according to Sony.
