Seoul is literally safer than any major US city. You can leave your laptop out and no one would take it.
I just went to South Korea in late November. Came back in early December. Seoul did get a really rare snow dump. But, we left to Busan by train, and Busan was really nice. All in all, the weather in South Korea around that time was nice! It wasn't much colder than where I live in Central Coast California. Late Dec is when it starts to get COLD.

I would HIGHLY recommend going. Seoul and Busan was freaking incredible. South Korea was my favorite place ever to visit. Also, the USD to Won is strong now, so it's cheap there. The food was SUPER cheap. Michelin star bowl of ramen was $7 USD. Sit down BBQ was $20 USD including beer. And the best thing about Seoul as a foreigner is almost everyone speaks some English. The younger adults are quite fluent. Whereas, I was surprised that hardly anyone in Japan seemed to speak English.
WOW! Anytime it's around $800 is an awesome deal!! Seoul is so nice, safe and FUN!

Only 35 miles to the DMZ kind of fun. Really intelligent travelling idea for any native American! Have a nice family vacation!
Just shows you how much you DONT know about South Korea. You get your daily feed from news sources, don't you? Lol

Good deals if you can travel during those times. Just booked a one way back from Seoul to SFO, it was almost $800. But I'm flying during June, which is quite busy b/c of school holidays. Ugh.

Visited South Korea and tested out the laptop and wallet scenario on busy (did I say busy) food court inside the Shinsegae shopping mall. Left and came back, everything was there. Mind blew. I asked the locals how that is so, they said they are after your seats not your things. Lol

And how did you actually do the test? Decided to leave an expensive laptop and wallet full of cash and really walk away without observing it from far away?

Last time we were there we went to the Hyundai mall food court which was jam packed for lunch. Found a table, left my bag on the table, and went to find the rest of my family. You'd be surprised at how many keys, phones, bags, etc. are left out in the open for extended periods.

Yup, it was uncomfortable, to say the least, but I've seen so many others like their purses, cell phones, ipad tablets just left on the coffee shop stores, malls, and even bus stops. So i was pretty confident that i would have my stuff still on that table. Nobody bats an eye, and if they do, they are schooled to bring it to the nearest worker or police station. I've had friends who had their wallets returned after they came back to the States. It was sent via airmail to their house.

There are many small convenient stores with no workers/cashiers, open 24/7 and based on an honor system for customers to grab what they need, ring up the right amount, and pay, just like the Amazon system with cashier less stores but you don't need an account.

Plus, you could be walking around in a dark neighborhood at 2am in the morning and not worry about being safe. Single women just walk around at night, heck even little grade school kids go home at 10pm after they finish their 3rd extra curricular prep schools. It's so safe there.

All this is to show how civil and upstanding the people are in South Korea, something we Americans need to learn a thing or two about.

P.S. There are CCTV cameras EVERYWHERE so be warned. You WILL get caught if you do something uncivilized.

I doubt very much that YOU are a Native American. Do you live on a Reservation?I've been UNDER the DMZ in a tunnel they dug back in the day, it's big enough for a Tank to drive through! It's a tourist attraction now. You sound like you cower in your bunker a lot, I'm sure you would have bone spurs if our Draft ever got reinstated..
I do, and am...LOL. But my point was, SK is completely isolated, and the only hope of escaping an emergency would be to jump in the ocean. Did you know the Korean War never officially ended? The craziest dictator on the planet controls the land you can practically throw a stone onto from Seoul. So call me a coward, this coward's gonna vacation in Hawaii.

If anyone goes to South Korea for more than a week, I highly recommend visiting Jeju Island as well. All of my friends who have visited there admire the nature beauty of the island, while Seoul is a great place to enjoy food, shopping, etc (classic city travel route like in Paris, London, Tokyo, etc, but has its own beauty).

1. Don't pre exchange cash in USA. Money exchange at airport offers way better rates than your bank. I think it was 6-7% more.
2. All but street vendors take credit card. Use home currency when paying cc.
3. Transit card is a must if you want to move around on the cheap. CS25 (7-11) at airport sells cards
4. Go-to any convenient store and buy a budget sim card $9-13 bucks depending on currency rate. 50-60 bucks airport for 30 SIM card. If you have number, you can use food delivery. If you go during Aug Sept, you are going to want to avoid heat and humidity.
5. Baseball game. YOU HAVE TO TRY. Chanting singing cheerleader dancing to kpop and beer and food are cheap as balls
6. Shoes. Much like most of Asia, expect 18-25k steps.
7. Google maps kinda works, but naver or Kakao best.
8. VPN. Korea blocks random sites.
9. Tabasco/siriacha. Nearly impossible to find.
10. Unless it's high end restaurant. Food coffee snacks etc are ordered via kiosk. Almost no human interaction.

Air premia , 600-700 is normal for October-December travel.
