Seoul is literally safer than any major US city. You can leave your laptop out and no one would take it.
I just went to South Korea in late November. Came back in early December. Seoul did get a really rare snow dump. But, we left to Busan by train, and Busan was really nice. All in all, the weather in South Korea around that time was nice! It wasn't much colder than where I live in Central Coast California. Late Dec is when it starts to get COLD.

I would HIGHLY recommend going. Seoul and Busan was freaking incredible. South Korea was my favorite place ever to visit. Also, the USD to Won is strong now, so it's cheap there. The food was SUPER cheap. Michelin star bowl of ramen was $7 USD. Sit down BBQ was $20 USD including beer. And the best thing about Seoul as a foreigner is almost everyone speaks some English. The younger adults are quite fluent. Whereas, I was surprised that hardly anyone in Japan seemed to speak English.
WOW! Anytime it's around $800 is an awesome deal!! Seoul is so nice, safe and FUN!

Is anyone seeing these rates? I am only seeing $861 for dates I checked in September and October.

Edit: I see the fares now on Expedia for Basic Economy.

Not the best time to go to korea in general unless you like howling siberian winds and winter blizzards constantly blowing in your face.

This deal includes August and September. Not likely to experience cold in those months. I've been to Seoul (and a couple other parts of South Korea) in November and it's crisp but not miserable. December can be rather cold.

They've had this deal for a while now. I booked a roundtrip flight recently a few weeks ago for late march to mid may for $660. Dunno about prices now for United but I've also seen ads for Air Premia having some sort of sale as well right now (they also fly from SFO)

Edit: Just realized Air Premia was brought up in the details. In any case, they're a good alternative. They're a hybrid airline where you get free checked bags and meals, but you have to pay for snacks and drinks (only water and coffee are free for economy passengers).

I lived in South Korea for many years. Blizzards and strong winter winds are rare, unless you're on the coast.

Fun in a socially-regressive sort of way or actual fun where there's alcohol and partying?

Wouldn't do the summer dates just cause of how bad the heat gets and how it goes days with non stop rain sometimes. The fall/winter dates aren't that bad

Only 35 miles to the DMZ kind of fun. Really intelligent travelling idea for any native American! Have a nice family vacation!

I'm sitting in ICN on a layover as I type this. It's a long flight but the A380 is an amazing aircraft.

End of November is when it starts getting really chilly
