Purchased 2 of these in 2023 at $40 each for the kids to use on switch or PC via steam. Good battery life and no connection issues via bluetooth. Abused and no stick issues. Only criticism is on the black model the button labels are difficult to read. Rubber center buttons attract some crud. However, D-pad feels better and silent compared to the clicky d-pad on x-box controller

Good stick, but if you're in the market and you're going to be using it with a PC or steam deck, might want to consider the Pro 2.4G controller that comes with the USB dongle. The bluetooth in this one isn't bad, but the dedicated 2.4G connection is more reliable and has lower latency. Probably worth the extra ten bucks or so.
can the button layout be switched on the controller itself with a button combo?
the other one that has the usb 2.4 can't be switched to the proper button layout on PC when using bluetooth.... however it works fine with the 2.4 dongle.

You can create a profile for it in the software and use the profile switching button to change to it
Is there a good BT joystick with decent battery life for around $20? Need a pair so my wife and I can play some casual games on an Android box emulator.

I'm not sure if there are other Bluetooth controllers with separate pairing support for switch, x input, d input, and Apple devices (4 devices), with Hall effect joysticks, AND support for AA batteries (eg rechargeable eneloops AA) for easily replaceable battery. Only other popular controllers with AA battery support are the official Xbox controllers I think. So the Pro 2 with Hall effect are currently my favorite controllers.
Just my two cents here, but as someone who owns the grey edition, and who bought it at the regular price I love this controller, so I would recommend this deal.
The D-pad feels great. It's comfortable to hold. It easily works on both the Switch, and the Steamdeck. It comes with a rechargeable battery pack, but it can also take rechargeable AA batteries as well. Now, if there's a pet peeve I have then it's that it can't wake up the Switch, but considering all of the positives of this controller then I think it's pretty manageable/easy to just use the 1st party pro controller (or the 8bitdo ultimate bluetooth) to first wake it up, and then swap controllers in the controller setting. That being noted, I use this controller more often than the 1st party pro controller, even on the Switch. It especially feels great for 2D games, but I usually like to use it for most 3D games, too.

that's unfortunate... i have a cheaper HORI controller that has it built into the controller. i see no reason not to do this... not gonna have some software that i need to use to do something that simple.. unlucky

You only need to use it once. The profiles save to the device.
