Its animation is cringey and it's voice work garbage. And the orcs my god the orcs (and the "balrog" smh).... I just listened to Andy Serkis read the entire trilogy and this movie didn't in any appreciable way capture the tone or god-forbid quality of Tolkein's incredible writing (stans of this movie will claim it's more true to the books). This movie is basically "and then this happened, and then this, then this" - just a cut-up of scenes from the book with no good flow or cohesion. Maybe it was fun for LOTR nerds when it came out but there's a reason a 2nd wasn't made: it's because this one sucked.
