I get so annoyed when Microsoft does great deals like this it's a obvious no since it's trapped on their own products only. Like why???
It's because they're too small of a company to be able to afford to code an app that is playable on other things such as TV's and non-Microsoft phones. Maybe someday they'll be able to grow in size to justify such a cost.
Not a good enough price to be trapped by such a limited ecosystem
I'm curious what other avenues you'd like offered via MS. This is just my ignorance on the topic but they do note it is linked with Movies Anywhere, is this a proprietary thing or just an least used option?

Only movies can be linked to MoviesAnywhere (MA), not TV series. Even when movies are not linked via MA, you can still watch what you buy on Vudu, Amazon Prime, Google Play, or Apple iTunes on your big screen TV at home via a Roku or Amazon stick or Apple box.
I understand Microsoft wants to keep everything within their ecosystem, but Microsoft is not Apple. They had a measly 2% of the smartphone market about a decade ago, but where is the Windows Phone now? Even Apple has an app for the Roku and Amazon Firestick. With Microsoft purchases, it's the XBox or PC (not even the web - you need to install the Movies & TV app on your PC). If you still use a Windows Phone, don't tell anyone.

hey, hey, HEY...
i loved my WinPhone, that thing was awesome!!!
i want it back so bad... they made me go to Android, which i absolutely despised, and now I'm on Apple for years which is slowly killing itself it seems (turns out a massive company can just have one smart guy, they die, your HUGE company stops doing anything at all. "y'all want the same thing as last year!?!?!? CANDO!!!")
(not those stupid "we put Windows on a phone for you guys!!! isn't it super easy to use!!!" back in the 90s or whenever that was... god those were AWEFUL )

Oh i'm set on the phone front!
Thanks for the info though, seems super confusing/lame that the MA App wouldn't allow this to work on android
Also hate it when all these media streaming stores sometimes only sell older shows by the season, instead of a complete series bundle, when many other older TV shows are sold only in a complete series bundle.
