No checked bag
No seat selection
Layover looks like it's about ~2h in YUL (Montréal) and the flight itself is 13h 35m
Flying direct from CHI to Tokyo is also 13h... so you're wasting all that time going east to Montréal to save like $200 on the flight that could have been a nonstop lol
Factor in the cost of a checked bag, and it's not worth it. The best flights to Asia take-off from California/Seattle/etc so the long leg is less painful.
It's a good deal. It's somewhat common, but not always offered.
One other way to get cheap(er) flights for ORD to TYO is to fly out of MKE or Indy. Crazy airline pricing, but United will often give you a cheaper fare if you originate in Milwaukee than if you originate Chicago - like 200-300 cheaper. Makes no sense to anyone but the airlines. Milwaukee airport is easily reached via Amtrak.

It's def saving more than $200. Typical flights from chi to Tokyo is like $1,500
In general, anything less than $900 or even $1000 is good price from Chicago to Japan. Traveling to smaller regional airports than from big airports like Chicago will save you some money on plane tickets to Japan. Search airports near you within driving distance when you search airplane tickets. Once, we saved $400+ per ticket when we drove to Lexington, KY from Indy to fly to Japan.
I paid $800 from Indy to Hiroshima, Japan for May trip. Return flight is from Haneda to Indy. I have 2 free check-in luggage and 1 carry-on (United).
Since someone mentioned there's no check-in luggage included in this deal, it may not be super deal.
Checked baggage fees
