Product Description from Amazon
  • 【SHARP BEYOND YOUR IMAGINATION】Unlike other entry-level knife sets, with blades roughly sharpened by machine, each Gourmetop kitchen knife set blade is painstakingly and precisely polished by expert craftsmen to ensure maximum sharpness. Meanwhile, premium high carbon stainless steel material applied to the blades ensures these knives have good edge retention, great hardness (HRC of 56+), and unparalleled toughness.
  • 【BLACK BLADE & COMFORT HANDLE】The natural black coating on the stainless steel blades enhances the non-stick properties and improves the robustness and corrosion resistance. Unlike other solid PP plastic knife handles, the Gourmetop kitchen knife handles are added with a soft touch latex material, providing a comfortable, anti-slip grip.
  • 【EASY TO STORE】Each knife set comes with a powerful 12-inch magnetic strip for storing these knives easily & securely, saving your kitchen counter & drawer space. The strip includes screws AND also heavy-duty adhesive tape for mounting on surfaces you do not want to drill holes into, such as a refrigerator or tile walls. Of course, this handy magnetic knife holder can also hold small kitchen utensils, tools, keys, and whatever else you can think of for the ultimate organizer.
  • 【MULTIPURPOSE KNIFE SET】This sharp kitchen knife set includes an 8-inch Chef Knife, 8-inch Slicing Knife, 8-inch Bread Knife, 7-inch Santoku Knife, 5-inch Utility Knife, and 3.5-inch Paring Knife. "The natural black coating on the stainless steel blades enhances the non-stick properties..."

Anytime they say "natural" I think it's probably bull and toxic. I don't want a "natural black coating" on kitchen knives. Non-stick pans are bad enough.

Zero reason to have nonstick coating on knives. Plus it will flake off over time, possibly into the food being prepared.

It's probably just electroplating or an oxidation process....having super shiny stainless steel (that doesn't change colors) is not "natural" by any stretch of the imagination and actually takes more effort and chemicals.

The vendor probably should not have used the word "coating" however you all seem to think this is some kind of paint or something layered atop the metal....which I would be very very very surprised if that is the case.

But no, a $10 set of kitchen knives will probably not please either of you no matter what the text said Wink

I doubt the purple, yellow, red and green versions are an oxidation process.

I didn't see those, just the black! You are right, clearly those aren't going to be oxidized and anyone worried about additives should run screaming from anything which is a color not found in nature (food or otherwise, ).

But I also doubt they are using lead based paint or asbestos in the process either so all this talk about hypothetical-theoretical-maybe-could-be-what-if problems are probably a complete waste of energy.
