I'm running a 10 year old Sony low profile soundbar w wireless subwoofer via HDMI for PC audio. So far so good
what does that have to do with this item?

I was looking into a deal on these speakers not long ago and from what I read on the audiophile website claimed these speakers used to be really good several years back but the newer models are much poorer quality. It seemed to be a pretty well-known thing. Just throwing that out there, maybe do some searching before purchase.

because people may not realize their old soundbar may work better than these speakers.

If you don't like it feel free to keep scrolling.
Having used bookend speakers and a soundbar separately these will blow a soundbar out of the water. A old soundbar will not work better than these speakers, please don't mislead people

This maybe a stupid question.

They are studio reference monitor speaker so they are super accurate by definition? But Bluetooth compression ruins the quality sound vs wired what am I missing? Why does this have BT?

They have Bluetooth because sometimes people just want to use them as regular speakers.

Naive question but - does this take just a single 3.5mm input? Or would I need to get a L-R split cable?

Bt 5.1 and up are pretty close to lossless, but yeah it's a weird feature IMO
To be fair a lot of music is mastered to sound good on a car stereo so there's arguments on both sides as to whether it matters
