from what I can tell it's relatively recent that ryi150c has been available tool only (no battery), which this is. the previous best price on the battery combo at DTO was around $70. so this is decent for those of us not needing any batteries - and I'd be buying it EXCEPT:

there is a 3rd party product available that's much better: "SYMIK PSC (pro)" (on amazon). it's seriously awesome, it's this same bidirectional usb-c charger idea, except it goes to 100 watts both ways. it doesn't have the AC power inverter, but for me that's irrelevant (I only used it to charge laptops, and better laptops now have usb c charging, wasting a lot less power)

Interesting. I've never seen this. Just curious, why not go Pro Max?

I can vouch for the SYMIK PDC. I was skeptical about buying 3rd party Ryobi stuff from Amazon but it's been awesome

what's a pro max

edit - nevermind - I see it's a new model of the SYMIK psc (wasn't available when I bought mine)

I guess it's price points - you spend more and get more. for most people the key feature is 100 watts in and out which I think all three models have. the pro was only a few dollars more than the non-pro when I got mine so I went for it, but I don't think I use anything extra it came with

oh - the pro max does 140 watts out, that's sorta nice since more laptops are coming that can do that

Interested. What are people's use cases?

I'd be interested in using as a laptop charger. Having said that I can just use my portable battery stations.

This is a great product from a reliable company and it's an awesome upgrade from the previous generation, I bought 2 about 2 weeks ago and so pleasantly surprised at the upgrades. To those pimping then near equivalent most of us buy it for the occasional AC output, but the extra separate AC to USB C plug in adapter seals the deal.

Power outage would be my primary use. They used to be extremely rare in our semi-rural area, but we have had a huge influx of people move to the area since the pandemic and now we get about a 1/2 dozen per year. They typically only last for 5-6 hours, but it's nearly always during work day hours when I need power the most.

Same.

Another more common use for me is for road trips. Kids can plug in devices and then can use this to recharge batteries when arrive at destination. As someone else mentioned, the USB wall adapter is great (with C and A), I use that all the time even when not using the inverter.

I suppose if you had a good battery bank there wouldn't be much need, but the AC option gives lots of flexibility. This is probably why I havnt gotten a battery bank capable of charging laptops.

nobody's pimping anything - different things are different. ryi150c maxing out at 30 watts usbc (tested to 37 watts unofficially I guess) is a big limitation. if you need AC it's a good option

Have you used this to power networking equipment during an outage?
