Apply this hardening and tempering heat treatment for these:
1. Heat them up to cherry red and quench them in oil, hold and move them around in oil for 20 secs.
2. Wipe them clean and put the bits in the oven @ 400-450 degrees F for 2 hours
3. Shut off the oven and let them cool in the oven.
They will come out pretty hard with good enough toughness to be used as good bits.
