Most people believe that the best way to motivate is with rewards - known as the carrot-and-stick approach. That's a mistаke, says Daniel H. Pink, author of To Sell Is Human: The Surprising Truth About Motivating Others.
In this provocative and persuasive new book, Pink asserts that the secret to high performance and satisfaction at work, at school, and at home is the deeply human need to direct our own lives, to learn and create new things, and to do better by ourselves and our world.
Drawing on four decades of scientific research on human motivation, Pink exposes the mismatch between what science knows and what business does - and how that affects every aspect of life. He examines the three elements of true motivation - autonomy, mastery, and purpose - and offers smart and surprising techniques for putting these into action in a unique book that will change how we think and transform how we live.

Absolutely fantastic book, would recommend it to anyone. It was a very compelling read, and also a very easy read. Excellent book and a great price too!
I had to read this class for a Master's level business course in Leadership and Communication. This was my favorite of the 6 books we read. I think the title really kind of says it all, but this is very useful not just in business, but in life too, and with kids. Understanding what motivates people is a very beneficial skill, and its not always what you think. Great tips in this book, and its very easy to read while being full of useful content, not one of those money grab crap books. BTW, my #2 book from that class was called Give and Take, also great. For $2? I'd buy this in a heartbeat. Just do it. You won't regret it.
