No. Just pop in an SD card. Had mine for like 6 months and it works fine without cloud subscription
If you contact their customer support and ask for the firmware that enables RTSP, they will email it to you.
Hackable with thingino CFW also

The coupon seems to work on 4k version too. It's about $30 after code. Not sure 128gb card will be enough for 4k local recordings

...but the L2 requires a CH341A programmer with the clip to do so****, and that's after opening the bulb up. I got one on the last deal and dove into the thingino rabbit hole. Anyhow, should be said that this will not be like flashing dd-wrt. ALSO, you'll lose 2-way audio (until it is implemented, I believe it's in the works), motion-tracking (when the bulb turns to face moving things), and setup is hobbyist-tier rather than something anyone could easily get up and running. Very beta software too, things improve, things break, etc.

I really like thingino for de-China-fying cams, but it is so not for everyone, not yet anyway. Edit: I should mention though (for others reading) that quite a few models can be done with just an SD card, others with a USB A to A cable with an OTG adapter and software (cloner).
****EDIT: Actually no, you can flash it by shorting pins 5 and 6 on the flash chip as it boots as it turns out, which causes the flash to be in a state of accepting a new file, and a prepared fw file then flashes the chip from SD card. Details here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LchoSa5Ws1M So it can be done with a screwdriver and an SD card.

Did you still like it after flashing the thingino version? Any regrets apart from the missing features?

This stuff has been on the FP many times but it is not desirable. The installation has limitation unless the light bulb socket is downward and a house has single light switch to control it. Their Laview 2K Solar Security Cameras Wireless Outdoor is better though the price has been increased from $25 to $40 because of no coupon.

Yeah, I like the camera because cheap bulb version. I have a 3rd camera on the way (3 different models) so I definitely like the project too. Just feel that people should know it isn't drag and drop easy before buying the L2 for that purpose. Very much a dev/hobbyist platform right now, the lead dev even says so. No real regrets to speak of as the features not implemented (yet?) aren't why I bought it/them. Thingino even has built-in wireguard support.

As an aside: the L2 has the sc3338 sensor, which is capable of 3MP, not 4MP. So the extra 1MP claimed by LaView is either upscaling or marketspeak bs, take your pick heh. That said, still a solid value.

Worth every cent if the application meets your needs. Paid 13.79 July 28 last year and still going strong.
