Aside from all the issues with the CURRENT dellrefurbished dot com - which is now completely handled by Fedex, and "refurbished" has a minimal meaning currently (I know this because I've purchased and returned a number of Grade A computers which weren't refurbished at all - for example, fans completely caked up with sh* ) ....

5420s have had a lot of problems. Not just the refurbished ones.

Quite a bit of problems with them shutting down randomly - absolutely no notice. Very difficult to figure out the cause. It can be everything ranging from not upgrading Bios, drivers, to problems caused by faulty RAM, to issues with Intel's new "sleep" regime. Can also be caused by Windows 11, which still has a lot of problems and compatibility issues. W11 was released without being fully developed.
For some reason, which isn't clear, the Latitude 5420 has a lot of problems. I've seen IT folks who oversee hundreds to thousands of computers say that they regularly deal with the random shutdown issues - they send them back under warranty and replace them with something else.

Others on slickdeal have mentioned that the 5XXX laptops released by Dell during the pandemic, are known for these problems.

Just be aware that this is refurbished by FedEx, and every single one of these machines I've bought has had a problem. Make sure and figure that out within the first hundred days of the warranty…

I swear I'd not buy another one, but I bought a 5420 recently through their site and only had to replace the battery since it was trashed. The rest of the machine runs great

Wait for the guys to jump and dump 'fedex' comments.

I bought a 7xx 2 in 1 3 years back, it was good.
In general, people comment are favord towarda 7xxx than 5xxx, i am not sure which models (i13 series or specific 5xx series). You have 15 days, if legit reason, no restock fee i think. Good price for good machine unless you get a lemon.

There are better places to get help with Linux - go to a site that's dedicated to Linux (maybe even reddit), post your computer specifications, and ask. Based on my understanding, Mint should have run ok on a computer than ran XP, but I'm not an expert on Linux.
A general google search I've found more useful, particularly for compatibility problems. Normally, there's a compiled list. Reddit has far more conjecture than facts. With conjecture parading as fact.

It's okay, but you're rolling the dice on how long this will actually be functional for you. After you factor in a warranty that's more than the very, very short-term warranty that they offer, that's an extra 50 bucks, and taxes, then you're already over $300. Why not spend a little bit more to have a new laptop that will have much better specs?
New has never been proven to be more fullproof. The new one is often going to cost 4-5x more. That $300 latitude is $1500 new. Better specs? Depends on a user's needs.

Ordered a laptop last night, and now they have a "48FOR48" coupon… Hopefully their customer service team will work with us on applying the new coupon.
Good luck. Their deals change at least weekly.

Got my 5420 today. "Grade A" but I would not rate it as such. Lots of little nicks and minor scrapes. Good thing the final owner of this laptop doesn't care too much, but if you did, I'd lower your expectations of the cosmetic condition of these laptops.
