I got this a few months ago and it's actually pretty nice, it's waaaaaaayyyyy better than the HF freight one.
Those are absolutely trash… nothing like sticking to a manifold while trying to retrieve a dropped nut and having it bend for no apparent reason… literally the pull of the magnet case cause it to bend… once bent you have about 6 seconds until the thin metal snaps.
I lob
Be the freight for all kinds of stuff, I'm an ITC member too but those telescoping magnets are crap. I use to buy a few at a time e when on sale.
I had a tekton for years but it finally got caught up in something and bent- at that time they didn't make those any longer. Limped along with it taped up until I got this craftsman.

I haven't bought craftsman in over a decade but I have to admit this is a really nice tool.

I actually got it with a mirror and pick up tool in Dec 2024 for $10 (CMMT98276) Good set

Hft there are a few versions. 15 lb is good to go for $2. The 18 inch with swivel end is tiny size of those retractable car antenna. Know each limits and you should be fine especially hft sale prices. Project farm did review on these telescopic magnets as well.

You can find generic version of these but a black handle at Dollar Tree on occasion. When I do I grab a few of them for my toolbox and to hand out to coworkers so they don't borrow mine.

I've had this for years. Used it to fish out spark plugs after loosening with a socket

I went down a random magnetic pickup tool rabbit hole for the last 2 hours and, for what it's worth, I'll share what I found.
1. This is a link to the VERY trustworthy Project Farm Youtube evaluation of magnetic pickup tools: https://youtu.be/mDKVGxuyGAs?si=Hp6FKbJXHKzl9gx_
2. This is a link to the Enbar magnetic pickup tool. FOR ME, at $7.98, it represents the best value for dollar looking at the chart the Project Farm shows at minute 13:11 in the video. It's not the absolute best, but for my needs, that's the one. (you can get 2 for only $12.98, which makes it $6.49 a piece and give one to a friend.((3 for $16 and 4 for $19 if you have a bunch of friends) Link: https://a.co/d/6vkYgJ5
3. I also found this set of 4 magnetic pickup tools on amazon for only $9.50. They seem to have decent reviews and I think this particular set at least is worth a look: https://a.co/d/afPGb44
4. Lastly, for fun, this 3 piece set, for a bit more, at least CLAIMS, to have 30 lb, 40lb and 80 lb lift weight. I don't believe it. But, I respect the audacity. Link: https://a.co/d/h5o0kgR
(tip: the tips seems to fall off over time so apply LocTite Blue to keep them on)
5. If you got this far, well, it's your fault! lol GOOD LUCK!! (I'm 50 but still think magnets are magic so I enjoy researching advancements in magnetic stuff)

Considering that I bought a three piece set that include this item for $9.99 a year ago, this doesn't seem that great of a deal to me. Granted, this set is not currently available on amazon at that price and I don't know if it will be offered again, but that's my take on it. here is the link to the Craftsman set I purchased on Amazon for $9.99 on 2/27/2024: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08L41Z..._title_1_0

Menards has something similar that's FAR a few times a year. They're very nice to have when working on things like my car engine.

I have a couple of the harbor freight ones. The biggest issue with it is the magnet seems to eventually crack after a few falls. Not sure if all magnets like this are so brittle.

If you buy one of these try to get one with a relatively weak magnet. If it picks up 10 lbs it's probably not something you want to get stuck to everything in an engine bay compartment.

I'm all for a slick deal but the harbor freight one is cheaper and lifts more weight.
