I have owned it since v9 and there's never been an upgrade fee or anything and now they are up to v19 I think. As far as I know, the licenses are perpetual.

Note that they typically give away free licenses with the purchase of their hardware - cameras, control boards etc. so if you have plans for one of those maybe continue to use the free version until you buy.
In my personal opinion, this non-linear editing (NLE) software stands out as the premier choice among its peers, surpassing Adobe Premiere Pro in every way in terms of value and performance. As others have noted, and as I can personally attest, the software requires only a one-time purchase of a license key, with no additional costs for subsequent upgrades. I acquired my license for version 13 in 2017, and as of 2025, with the current version being 19.1.3, I have not incurred any further upgrade expenses.
I run a subtitling company and I've been using the free version for years. At this price, I think I owe it to Blackmagic to finally pay them some money. Plus, the paid version has AI captioning, which would come in handy. I'm in for this price.

Great price for a non-bullshit non-subscription (aka Adobe) model.
CapCut is better for basic stuff, this certainly fits a Pro mold better. Think Photoshop v Canva.

Resolve is an amazing value and close to a one stop shop for editing through finishing. Definitely a good deal. My only petty gripe is that it's not for the dongle that allows for easy machine and operator swaps, but it's nitpicking

I was going to buy it for $236 during the Christmas holiday but this is a better price. Hopefully, they don't go to the subscription model. I wonder if that's why B&H is discounting it so much.

Insane price. Never seen it this low. Would recommend if you were on the fence.

Can you explain the dongle - is it more than an activation code where you have to use iLok or something? Am I able to switch my license between Mac and Windows? I currently use a MacBook M1 Pro with FCP but could get forced into a Windows laptop in the future.

I've been using the free version for basics, which is pretty great. A lot of the features I want to use are in the paid version.

What's the difference between this and the free version Resolve?

Does this cover both pc and iPad/Android tablet OS? How many devices are covered by this license?
